Too Precious to Let Go

Nothing really matters,

Just living life and getting by.

But things seemed to change

When you chose to die.

Tears were shed at your funeral,

Balloons sent into the sky.

Everyone was asking the same question,

We all wanted to know why.

They stole from you,

They put you down.

It seems each day,

You only wore a frown.

We walked into school,

Some of us still unaware.

But hearing the tragic news,

Nothing seemed quite fair.

You chose to go,

You wanted it.

You chose to leave

After one final hit.

Your girlfriend cried and screamed and cried,

Your body at her feet.

She was pregnant with your daughter,

Whom you will never meet.

She was lost,

Not knowing what to do.

They told her abortion was best,

But was that really true?

After you were gone,

She couldn't let the final piece go.

She saved the child,

She told them all no.

With you away,

She saw the preciousness of life.

She will always miss you,

Along with the dreams of being your wife.

Life is precious,

Too precious to let go.

The great things ahead of you,

You will never know.

The letter was read,

Your suicide note.

It was so painful,

Reading the things you wrote.

Your parents and grades,

All you worried about.

Not going to college,

Every moment filled with doubt.

But your parents are remarried,

You were accepted into that school, too.

Everything's getting better,

And not because of you.

These things were already happening,

To distant for you to see.

But you gave up all hope,

So these things you will never be.

Evaluating all of this,

I've realized this is true:

Life is precious,

Too precious to let go.

The great things that were ahead of you,

You will never know.
