Sloane's POV
Seven years ago
Sloane was worried he was late. He spent the whole night up, anxious for today. He wondered if the young master would turn up at their meeting place. He wondered if he did the right thing. He knew only the elites in society would attend the secret society bar.
As a member of staff he was told to keep quiet, to never interact with the clients. He was only supposed to be the bartender, quietly saving money. Ready to travel the world and live somewhere where he could openly be who he was.
But the week he was supposed to buy his ticket he found there was one person he couldn't let go.He thought the young master only wanted another toy to play with. But he was sweet to Sloane, kind and easy to talk to. And then one thing led to another.
Sloane's greatest fear was that he would just be a past time. He wanted to confirm his own feelings and get to know him, see the person under the mask. If all goes well, then perhaps he would stay. And if it didn't, then he would leave the country.
In his eyes, there were no losses.
The cafe across the street from the building where the secret parties were held was already full of people. He scanned around. Trying to figure out if the person he was meeting today was already sat down. Sloane closed his eyes, imagining the night they touched. The man's silver hair, his fierce eyes. And that was all that was needed for a blush to spread across his cheeks.
He sat down at an empty table, thinking the young master was not yet here.
But suddenly someone sits down.
A young man, with silver hair and doe brown round eyes.
"Sorry, I'm waiting for someone-" Sloane started. This man who seemed like he knew Sloane, but it can't possibly be him. The silver in his hair was brighter or was that because the room they were in the bar was dimly lit."Sloane? Is that your name." He smiled, the stranger noticed Sloane's hesitation and took a piece of paper from his pocket and placed it on the table. It was the note Sloane wrote, it was his hand writing. With the address, the time and his name.
Sloane relaxed. He didn't know why he didn't recognise him, this man who he knew could be the love of his life. He only felt stupid for doubting him.
"Sorry, yes. Even though we already slept together how can I not recognise you even without a mask." Sloane laughed.
"Oh we did?" The young master said, surprised as he took a seat.
"Sir stop teasing me." Sloane covered his face. "You could have rejected me if you didn't want to. And you said you will tell me your name."
"Samuel. My name is Samuel Seon." He grinned. "And I had forgotten what it was like to kiss such a beautiful man." He reached out to interlock his hands with Sloane's. "Would you like to remind me?"
Sloane laughed, remembering the night they had. And how he too couldn't wait for their lips to meet again. He reached over the table. Kissing this man, who he decided to stay for.
There was a certain charisma to Samuel he was easy to talk to. He knew how to read people, he knew what to say. And at the time, he believed Samuel was everything he wanted. He seemed like a person that wore his emotions on his sleeve. But Samuel was a master at manipulation. And all the kindness he showed Sloane was a trap he had set.
Before Seth, Sloane had been a secretary once before. He met him in the most unusual way. Yet Sloane who had never fallen in love before, had fallen hard while he believed Samuel's every lie.
He thought his heart was racing, he thought it was love. But looking back they were alarm bells. Warning him, that he was about to make the most dangerous decision of his life.
Looking back Sloane was surprised how sure he was this stranger was the love of his life. After weeks of getting to know Samuel, he was nothing short of perfect. He always held the conversations, there was never silence. He wanted to know so much about Sloane. And Sloane who had never dated before took it all as a good sign.
But then Sloane began to ask questions. "Where was the item I gave you during our first night? It's important to me."
"I must have miss placed it."
"Shouldn't I meet your family?"
"Maybe another time."
Sloane wondered if those questions were what caused everything to spiral. Samuel had begun acting strange, the perfect prince mask slipping away. He kept Sloane in his house. Locked the doors to stop him from leaving. Took his passports.
"Don't I need to go to work?" Sloane said. "I don't want to be inside all the time."
"You know you don't really need to do anything. Just stay here and wait for me." Samuel smiled. "I have enough money to keep us happy."
It was around that time Sloane, found himself avoiding Samuel. Avoiding intimacy. Who was this person? Sloane hated doubting himself. He wanted to hold onto the brighter memories and held his breath as he dived into the toxic void with Samuel hand in hand.
Sloane wished someone taught him how it should be, so that he would know what love should be like. He wished he met Seth first and never suffered any heartache.
Present
"Kitten." He heard.
Sloane thought he would never leave that nightmare but he woke up to the sound of his name. The lights were bright and after looking around he realised he was in the hospital.
He must have heard wrong, because Seth would never call him that outside of the contract. He tried to sit up as Seth helped him.
"Seth how long have I been here?" Sloane mumbled.
"A few hours. You're fine now. I won't let her near you again." Seth affirmed, he held Sloane's hand. Almost like he wasn't going to let go. And Sloane wanted to believe all those lovely things about Seth.
But there was an underlying feeling, that perhaps the main reason why Seth didn't want the relationship with him was because Sloane was Samuel's ex.
"Is Samuel your cousin?" Sloane thought he was over it all, but the mention of his name, the idea that he would be back. It caused a range of painful memories to flood back.
"Yes he is." Seth answered.
"I can't-" Sloane was starting to hyperventilate. Samuel knew where he was. He would find him and it would only be a matter of time. Sloane's eyes drifted to his left. Where he noticed a set of black roses on his table with a letter. He knew from the scent of smoke and vanilla who it was from.
'Baby did you miss me?'
