The First Meeting

"Hi Vi, wanted to introduce you to this pocket dynamo of our team, Ishan Kishan. He has been looking forward to meeting his Virat Sir since he joined us', said Rohit, introducing the new MI wicket keeper.

"Big fan, Virat Sir. Some day I hope to be half as good as you", Ishan greeted his idol.

"Ye sir vir chodo yaar, call me Virat ya Virat bhai if you feel like giving me respect. And half good kya hota hai- you can be better than me - work hard", Virat advised the boy. Virat later sent a signed RCB t-shirt to the boy.

2 IPLs later

"Virat bhai, RCB haari toh you will give me a party", Ishan told Virat at the practice session before their match.

"Whoever wins, you just want a party. RCB jeeta toh you come and join our after match party, nahi toh I will come for the MI party. Deal?", Virat asked.

They shook hands on the deal. MI lost the match and Ishan was picked up from the team hotel to join the RCB party. He never had any issues mingling with strangers, so as expected ended up being the life of their party.

"It's too late, Ishan. Sleep here tonight. Subah subah uthke chale jaana", Virat advised after the party. Ishan slept in Virat's room that night- Virat staunchly refusing to let him sleep on the couch. "Kyu teri girlfriend rooth jayegi?", he asked. "Meri koi girlfriend boyfriend nahi hai- aapki gf ko problem hogi, that's why I offered to sleep on the couch", Ishan explained.

"Woh meri problem hai na- you sleep here on the bed with me", Virat said. Ishan had ended up koala hugging Virat all night and overslept the alarm.

"Shit.. I had to report at the bus by 8 am. It's already 7.30. Rohit bhai is going to kill me today", Ishan complained.

"Tell someone to pack your stuff and run now. If Ro gets angry tell him I didn't let you go, kuch nahi bolega", Virat advised.

"No way. The whole team calls me your pet already- the word pet would get another meaning if they come to know that I slept here yesterday. Bhaagta hu. I will call you once I reach", Ishan said, half running. Of course, he forgot his hoodie in Virat's room.

Rendezvous as Teammates

Ishan was finally getting a chance to play with all his idols. He had got selected to the national team and was looking forward to learning more from the seniors. "Virat bhai", he called as soon as he spotted his idol.

"Aa gaya tera pet boy. Uski zimmedari teri- tu hi sambhalna uss badmash ko", Rohit said, handing over the responsibility of managing the bubbly boy to Virat. Both Ishan and Shubman could be seen hanging around their captain all the while, but Virat had a special liking for Ishan for how he managed to bring a smile to Virat's face all the time.

It was a few months after his entry into the Indian team that Ishan had heard rumours of Virat's break up from his long term girlfriend. He knew he was taking a risk, but he hoped that they were close enough to have such personal discussions. "Virat bhai, are you okay?", he asked, with a bit of hesitation.

"Can you all just stop asking me that? What if I am not okay? Are you planning to kiss my boo boo away? Keep your nose out of others' business, Ishan", Virat had shouted at him in front of the whole team. It was the first time that the team had seen Virat getting angry at Ishan. If Ishan was upset, he hid it well with his smile. He left early before the team after practice.

"Ishan kahaan hai?", Virat asked after boarding the bus. "He left for the hotel after informing me. He was a bit unwell", said the coach. Virat knew he needed to talk to the boy.
