Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have appointed Omkar Salvi as their fast bowling coach for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL), as reported by TOI. Salvi is currently the head coach of Mumbai, under whom the team won the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy in March and the Irani Cup in October. This will be Salvi's second stint in the IPL; he previously served as the assistant bowling coach for Kolkata Knight Riders. He has also worked as Mumbai's bowling coach. Notably, his brother Avishkar is the bowling coach of the Indian women's cricket team and led Punjab to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last season.
Salvi will join RCB, ViratKohli's team, after the domestic season concludes in March 2025. He took charge of Mumbai before the 2023–24 season and guided the team to their 42nd Ranji Trophy title, their first in eight years, defeating Vidarbha by 102 runs in the final. In October, he led Mumbai to their first Irani Cup win in 27 years, achieving a rare double triumph.
Despite his low profile, Salvi has earned respect for his coaching abilities. AjinkyaRahane, Mumbai's captain, praised Salvi for his ability to quietly get the best out of his players. Salvi's challenge at RCB will be to improve the team's bowling, a persistent issue, especially at the Chinnaswamy Stadium with its short boundaries. RCB, who made the playoffs last season, are still searching for their first IPL title.
