Mukesh Kumar made a strong statement to the BCCI selection committee on Test selection, first in the Duleep Trophy and later in the Irani Cup. Even if some of the veteran players are leaving the game, the struggle for spots in the Indian squad doesn't appear to be slowing down.
Securing a position in the Indian team is as difficult as ever, regardless of the format. With an outstanding performance in domestic events, Mukesh Kumar, who became a 3-format player for India during the West Indies trip last year, delivered a strong message to the selection committee lead by Ajit Agarkar. Mukesh has been hammering away at the selectors' doors for some time, first with the Duleep Trophy and then with the Irani Cup.
Mukesh took 15 wickets for India B during the Duleep Trophy campaign, which was the second-highest total in the competition at 28.60, including two four-wicket hauls. The medium bowler took five wickets for the Rest of India squad in their most recent Iran Cup match against Mumbai.
After his outstanding performance in the Irani Cup, Mukesh told Sportstar, "I was mainly focusing on this game, how to plan a wicket, and how to justify the faith that the captain has shown in me." In regards to team selection, Mukesh believes that if he is deserving, he will be called up for the Indian squad. "Selection and everything else will continue. I will undoubtedly be chosen if I performed well and am worthy. There will be plenty of further chances to perform in subsequent games.
Actually, the sole goal I had set for myself was to play for India. I've realized that playing in each of the other countries will be a source of pride after I've accomplished it," he remarked.
Mukesh has worked hard enough to be chosen as a backup pacer for the tour of Australia. Mukesh might be a fallback since Mohammed Shami is taking some time to recover.
"I've heard such wickets aid pacers because they provide bounce and velocity. Evidently, I've been considering bowling there, and if given the chance, I'll give it my all," he remarked.
