Tim Southee, an experienced fast bowler for New Zealand, has made the decision to retire his successful cricket career after the England Test series at home.

He started his debut on the international scene at the ICC U19 World Cup, which also included players like Marcus Stoinis of Australia, Shan Masood of Pakistan, and Virat Kohli of India.

In that event, Southee was the leading wicket-taker and Player of the Series. He is currently the Kiwis' top wicket-taker in international cricket and has since moved on to play senior cricket for his country.

He will be recognized for being a member of one of New Zealand's top visiting teams that swept India 3-0 in the 2024 Test series in India, which was regarded as a historic victory.

When will Tim Southee stop playing Test cricket?

At his home ground in Seddon Park, Hamilton, beginning December 14, 2024, Southee will announce his retirement from Test cricket during the third and final Test match of the series against England.

"As a child, my one desire was to represent New Zealand. It feels right to leave the game that has given me so much, even though playing for the BlackCaps for 18 years has been the greatest honor and privilege," he said.

"Playing such a big series against the same opponent my Test career began against all those years ago, and on three grounds that are incredibly special to me, seems like the perfect way to end my time in the black cap," he continued. "Test cricket holds a special place in my heart."

If the nation progresses to the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final in June 2025, Southee is reportedly willing to make himself available for the team.

Since their recent 3-0 thumping of India, the Blackcaps have increased their prospects of making it to the final.

New Zealand's PCT will rise to 64.29 if they win all three of their Test series matches against England; nevertheless, their fate will be determined by the outcomes of India, Australia, and South Africa.
