Just over a week after Mohammad Yousuf resigned from the men's selection committee, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed Aleem Dar, Aaqib Javed, Azhar Ali, and Hasan Cheema as the new foursome of voting members. The appointments represent the most recent "recomposition" of the selection committee, which has seen multiple changes this season and will result in coaches losing their ability to influence team selection.
Asad Shafiq and Cheema were already on the selection committee, but Cheema now has the ability to vote. Following Pakistan's early withdrawal from the T20 World Cup in June, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi reorganized the selection panel earlier this year, although he did not name any successors. Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were fired. Shafiq was the sole member with voting rights besides the captains and coaches following Yousuf's resignation at the conclusion of the previous month because there was no replacement announced at that time.
The selection of the new voting members occurred just a few hours after Pakistan lost the first Test match at Multan by an innings and 47 runs, making them the first team in Test history to lose a match by an innings after reaching more than 550 on the opening day.
Pakistan now has just 16 points from eight games, which has dropped them to the bottom of the WTC points standings.
