Keyaki Mall

Kei and I were walking around when I noticed Horikita spending time with Sato and Matsushita. While it was obvious she wasn't completely comfortable it was also clear that she was making a genuine effort.

'She's really taking my advice seriously huh?... wait... those clothes... they're brand clothing.'

Kei seemed to notice as she looked unhappy. I turned my attention to her.

"So what do you think we should do today? Roaming Keyaki Mall doesn't really seem ideal."

"Ah mou Kiyotaka. I thought you had made plans."

"I just said I wanted to hang out."

"Well we could always visit the shrines."

"Shrine? There's something like that on campus?"

"Um yeah. Theres a few of them but they're a little out of the way."

'Well even though I have explored most of the school there are still places I haven't. Mostly because I though I'd stand out as strange if I did. Those places with less people...'

Kei started leading me to a shrine.

Shrine

When we arrived I spotted a certain bald man in the crowd. Without a doubt it was Katsuragi. He was praying diligently. No doubt about it. He was a religious man though his reasons for it were not simply because he was raised that way. The level of respect and effort he showed far exceeded what one would typically expect. perhaps he's praying for someone? Someone he deeply cares for? Most likely a family member. The man approached us.

"You two are from Class 1D correct? Karuizawa Kei... and Ayanokoji Kiyotaka."

"That's right and you're Katsuragi Koehei. Back there were you praying for someone in particular?"

"Oh? Not really. I was praying that I'd be able to become a successful doctor when I graduate."

"Doctor? Might I ask why you chose that route?"

"Well Is suppose you can't use it against me so there is no harm. My little sister is sick. The disease is serious and she's on a very long waiting list. The number of doctors able to perform the surgery at an affordable price can be counted on one hand. Because of that it would be faster if I simply became a doctor and did the surgery myself."

"I see. And this is why you came to this school?"

"Yes."

Kei spoke up.

"Why not pray to cure her or something like that?"

"I'm not willing to entrust everything to a diety though I don't see the harm in asking for this much."

'It's not completely logical but it doesn't really need to be.'

"You seem like a religious man though.

"I am but There are things you can't leave to the gods."

'I see.'

"When a man is tested by the world with great pain and suffering should he help the world that betrayed him or burn it to ash? What do you think Katsuragi?"
