Island- Ayanokoji POV
We were all sitting together as a class when Hirata gathered us together.
"Even though we're in the lead we should find some more spots to occupy. Who will search with me?"
A few people put up their hands. Oddly enough Koenji also agreed raising his hand. From the way he sat in the tree, you'd think he lived a life in the jungle like Tarzan before coming to our school. I chose to raise my hand as well and Horikita looked at me sceptically.
"You're choosing to volunteer? You of all people?"
"With so many people volunteering it would be strange if I didn't."
"Honestly."
Karuizawa then raised her hand.
"I'll go as well."
Hirata smiled.
"Thanks so much, Karuizawa-San."
He seemed to notice her gaze being fixed on me.
"Alright. We'll go in three-man teams. How about Ayanokoji, Karuizawa and Koenji."
Karuizawa walked over to me making a happy face as Koenji smirked.
"Hope you can keep up with me. I won't slow down for you two."
Karuizawa and I started walking when Koenji lept from tree to tree.
'What the heck? What's with this guy? He swings through the trees as if it's second nature. Even from that place, there are few I'd consider able to do that with such confidence. Is he some kind of ape? Is he the missing link?'
Koenji stopped on one tree admiring his surroundings.
"Ahh, what a beautiful sight. This place is worthy of my presence. But the fact I am conducting myself serenely in the midst of this beauty only serves to amplify the quality of my beauty."
I was able to keep up with Koenji despite his speed but Karuizawa was not. I looked back to find her panting while trying to catch her breath.
"Ah, mou. You two are so fast. I can't keep up."
"Sorry. I guess we'll have to trust he can handle himself."
"To keep up with Koenji-Kun like that. You're really amazing Ayanokoji-Kun."
"I wouldn't say that."
"You're so modest all the time Ayanokoji-Kun."
"..."
I chose not to respond to that. My experience with Horikita made me aware of the potential risk of carrying on too much. I decided to try to reason with Koenji.
"Hey Koenji. If you move too fast you'll..."
"There's no need to worry about a forest like this during the day. I won't get lost Ayanokoji-Boy."
Koenji proceeded to laugh and then rush through the forest without a care in the world.
"Looks like he's gone. We won't be catching up to him anytime soon."
"Sorry Ayanokoji-Kun. It's all my fault."
"It's alright. I'm sure Koenji can handle himself."
We came across a cave.
