"Hey!" Mom told us happily.
"Hey, mom." I responded back.
"So, uhm... what should we even do? I feel like we have so much to catch up on!" Marleigh asked. I've got to admit, her acting skills were top-notch. And yet, she's afraid of auditioning for school plays and other projects.
"Well, I'm eager to know what y'all's lives are like. It doesn't have to be long; just a summary." Mom replied. Given that, I've decided to make mine as vague as possible.
"Well, I'm in my sophomore year as I've already said. I'm doing the best in my English classes. Straight A's." I said.
"That's great, honey! I'm so proud of you!" Mom hugged me. "And you, Marleigh?"
"Same as Mason, I'm a sophomore. I'm currently taking an elective and I'm also doing well in English."
"Aww, I'm so proud of the both of you!" She grouped hugged us. I listened closely to any signs of humanity in her. Turns out, she had a beating heart, and her skin felt authentic for someone her age. Oddly enough, I think she was trying to sense my heartbeat as well.
Mom continued, "Do y'all do any activities?"
"Yep! I'm currently in gymnastics and I'm doing quite well. Mason's involved in a Church group." Marleigh replied.
"Oh, that's great!" Mom replied back.
"Mason! Marleigh!" Brandon screamed across the room. "Want to come hang out with us over here?"
"Yeah, sure!" I yelled back. "Love you, Mom." I hugged her.
"I love you so much!" Marleigh hugged Mom.
"I love you guys, too!" Mom said back to us. She hugged us back. "Have fun!" And with that, me and Marleigh began to run towards the sleeping room. Brandon shut the door behind us.
"Okay, what's the plan?" Brandon suddenly asked.
"Huh?" me and Marleigh asked back.
"I've been peeking from a distance at you both. It looked like it was your mother, but you told me she was dead, right, Mason?"
"Yes, she is." I responded back, although not entirely sure for some reason.
"Connect the dots, man!" Brandon continued. "She can't be trusted!"
"We know she can't be trusted." Marleigh sighed. "But... it would be nice to get to know her better, I guess..."
"Marleigh, are you crazy?! She's not your mother!" John screamed.
"I know, but I'm willing to take the risk, you know?" All of us started fussing at her at why she would make this seemingly stupid decision.
I had to step in and yell at everyone to calm down, after which I said to everyone, "Look, I know she could be evil, but she isn't doing any harm right now. Let's try to strike when she is not expecting us to. Does that sound like a good plan?" Everyone reluctantly agreed. We all went to my mom with a smile on our faces. If she really was our mom, we would be over-the-top happy to see her.
