A/N: hey guys, I have one chapter left and then this story is over; BUT DON'T WORRY! Mariah and Joe's story doesn't end here. No, no. I will be putting out the sequel within the next few days.

A few days had passed since Chuck was shot. Before he was sent back to America most of Easy had gone to see him. He was in rough shape; his face was swollen and his head was entirely encased a large cloth bandage. It was a horrific sight.

The day after he had left everyone was gathered on the air field. The Germans were officially surrendering and a lot of the soldiers came out to see it.

A Jeep pulled up driven by Winters, Nixon was in the passenger seat and Lipton was in the back. The car stopped and Lipton jumped out. Almost immediately the German General walked over. He made eye contact with Winters and nodded to him.

Winters nodded back and pointed to Lipton; the General turned and faced him. "With your permission I'd like to address my men, briefly."

"That'll be fine General." Lipton said. The General nodded at him and walked away. From beside them a truck started up and drove away, Sobel was standing behind it. The moment she laid eyes on him Mariah's stomach twisted. She was about to walk away when Winters spoke. "Captain Sobel." He stopped walking and looked at Winters, visibly shocked.

"Major Winters," The man said quickly, beginning to walk away.

"Captain Sobel. We salute the rank, not the man."

Sobel stopped and took a deep breath. He turned to face the Jeep and put his hand up to his forehead, quickly pulling it down. As he walked away, he glared at Mariah.

"He still hates me. I was in a fucking war man, put some respect on me."

Joe shook his head and laughed. "I know love, I know." He put his arm around her shoulders and walked towards the Jeep.

The General started to speak; Mariah had no idea what he was saying. "Joe, can you translate what he's saying?"

"Men, it's been a long war, it's been a tough war. We fought bravely, proudly, for your country. You are a special group. we've found in one another a bond, that exists only in combat; among brothers. We shared foxholes, had each other in dire moments. We've seen death and suffered together. I'm proud to have served with each and every one of you. You deserve long and happy lives of peace."

Everyone smiled a bit. They knew exactly what the general was talking about. Easy Company had been through everything together; they were a family, and nothing could break that.

Buck had come back so Easy decided that a celebratory baseball game was in order. Luz had finished running around the bases when Winters and Nixon pulled up. Everyone

stopped what they were doing and ran over.

"Listen up, got some news." Winters began. This morning President Truman received the unconditional surrender from the Japanese. War's over."

Everyone smiled, hugged and cheered. They were going home.
