Two soldiers who were priests before enlisting decided to start the afternoon with a prayer. Religion was not Mariah's cup of tea but she agreed to go as it was something to do besides sitting in a foxhole.

"That's it guys, if we die now, we're gonna die in a state of grace." Muck said.

From the tree she was leaning on Mariah saw Eugene step out of the jeep with a large box in hand. Mariah and Spina made their way over to him. "Battalion wasn't a reconnaissance patrol, Kraut hunting."

"Alright, we'll go. Here take these," Eugene and Mariah ran to catch up with the men that were leaving.

Joe caught sight of Mariah and quickly walked over to her. "What are you doing here?"

"Nice to see you too hun. Eugene and I are going with you guys,"

"I don't think that's a good idea. It's dangerous."

Mariah's rolled her eyes and sighed. "Joe, I've been more dangerous situations."

"That's not the point! I don't want you getting hurt."

"Joe..." Mariah started but was interrupted by Eugene.

"We're not going." He sighed.

Mariah could feel Joe's smirk but chose to ignore it. "What do you mean we're not going?"

"Martin doesn't want us to. He wants us to stay here and out of trouble."

"So, we're just going to sit here and twiddle our thumbs?" Mariah asked.

"I'm fine with that," Joe spoke up from beside her.

Mariah punched him in the shoulder. "Nobody asked you,"

"ALRIGHT BOYS, LET'S MOVE OUT!" Martin yelled.

"I'll see you when I get back?" Mariah wanted to be mad at Joe but seeing his face she knew she couldn't.

"Yeah, I'll see you soon." He looks around before giving her cheek a quick peck. She stood in her spot until the men disappeared. Turning she saw Eugene sitting against a tree; his lips pressed tightly together, his eyes dark and staring forward. Mariah sighed; she knew there was no way she was going to be able to get him to smile let alone talk.

Eugene and Mariah sat against that tree for what seemed like hours. Eugene sat as still as a statue looking towards the treeline. Mariah on the other hand was sitting was sitting with her legs out, head up, counting the branches above. Mariah felt calm until gunshots rang out from deep in the forest. Before either could process a solider from Easy running through the trees, "What's happening sir?"

"We're pulling back; we made contact. I gotta get to CP. Both turned their heads to look at each other, this wasn't good.

Through the trees they saw the men running back. Shots rang out and a man hit the ground. Two soldiers picked him and carried him by his arms, his head was hung and he wasn't moving his legs. "We got him." Mariah said.

The soldier was placed on the ground, both medics got to work. The man had a large hole blown into his side and was bleeding profusely. Mariah put her hand over the wound while Eugene grabbed a bandage. He wrapped it around the man's waist while Mariah plunged a Morphine syrette into his shoulder.

"We gotta get out of here you two." A voice came from beside them. Mariah grabbed the man's jacket and pulled him into the treeline. Spina ran over and helped Mariah get him to the jeep. "I'll take him," Mariah said. She jumped in the back of the truck and hit the side when she was ready to go.
