i was taught to never dog ear pages
to not damage books
never write on the pages
don't highlight or underline
leave it untouched
i didn't want to leave a mark
or any sort of sign that i had read the book
but if our story was a book
i'd mark every single page
i would want everyone to know
that we experienced the same journey
two different halves
waiting to be whole together
it's just unfortunate
that we weren't the same story
no matter how you tried to piece us together
the story never flowed
the plot didn't make sense
we were too different
and yet too similar
the same main characters
the same lessons to be learnt
but never meant to cross
alternate universes
i'd like to think that in some universe
our stories align
and we finally fit together
because my story is now left unfinished
without you
and even still
i would leave my mark on every page
write little notes in the margins
comment on every line
just to show people
that i will keep reading it
over and over
until the ending becomes clear
i wish the ending could've been you.
