"Courage doesn't mean you don't get afraid. Don't let fear stop you."
CHAPTER 8
bravery14 September 2149
Finn holds the vine tight in his hands.
He is wasting time, because he's too scared to go.
"You wanted to go first. Now quit stalling", Clarke says somewhat grumpily, "Mount Weather awaits."
"Just hang on till the apogee, and you'll be fine", Jasper tells to Finn. This is starting to take too long.
"The apogee like the Indians, right?", asks Finn. He's a bit nervous to go, that's why it's taking so long.
"Apogee, not apache", corrects Jasper. Finn pulls the vine closer to his body.
"He knows. Today, Finn", says Madison impatient and irritated.
Madison is an impatient person, so this makes her seriously grumpy.
"Aye, aye, captain. See you on the other side", says Finn with a nervous smile.
Finn steps back to take a run-up. He is ready to swing to the other side of the river, but then Jasper interrupts him.
"Wait", he says.
"What?", asks Finn.
Jasper takes a quick look at Octavia. He wants to go first so he can show her how brave he is.
"Let me. I can do it", Jasper says.
Octavia smiles at him. She knows he's doing it for her and it's very obviously that he likes her. Madison notices it, too.
Finn hands the vine to Jasper.
"Knew there was a badass in there somewhere", Finn smiles.
The moment the vine was pressed into his hands he felt the tension rising.
He takes a step back, just like Finn did, for a run-up. He holds the vine firmly in his hands.
Everyone can see that Jasper is terrified and they understand that. They all would be.
"Hey, it's okay to be afraid, Jasper. The trick is not fighting it", Finn tries to reassure him a bit.
"See you on the other side", Jasper smiles nervously at him.
Then he takes a run and jumps off the shore. His hands cramp because of how tightly he holds the vine.
He swings across the river and at just the right moment he lets go of the vine. He falls on the shore on the other side of the river.
The vine swings back to the other side and Finn grabs it.
Jasper looks up in surprise.
He can't believe he made it. He smiles in relief and throws his hands in the hair.
