Gabby was sitting on the couch with her legs tucked under her, a notebook in her lap. She'd been scribbling ideas for their wedding but kept pausing, chewing on the cap of her pen. Zay walked in, fresh from his workout, a towel slung over his shoulder.
"What you workin' on, baby?" he asked, flopping down next to her.
She sighed, tapping the notebook with her pen. "Wedding stuff. Tryna figure out how to do this without it bein' too much."
Zay raised an eyebrow, leaning over to look at the page. "Too much? What you mean?"
Gabby set the notebook down and looked at him, her expression serious. "I don't wanna do no big, over-the-top thing, Zay. That ain't me. Honestly, if it was up to me, it'd just be me and you. But I know you got people, and your sister gon' wanna be there."
Zay nodded, letting her talk.
"So, I was thinkin'... we keep it small. Like, real small. Just you, me, your close people, and maybe the girls from the shop. That's it."
Zay tilted his head, studying her. "You sure, Gabby? I mean, this is your day too. You don't gotta cut back just 'cause you think you supposed to."
Gabby gave him a small smile. "Zay, I don't even got no family or friends. I'm good with keepin' it simple. I just want it to be about us, not a bunch of extra stuff."
Zay reached out, taking her hand. "Aight, baby. If that's what you want, then that's what we gon' do. Small, simple, all about us. Long as I get to see you walkin' down that aisle, I'm good."
Gabby felt a wave of relief, her shoulders relaxing. "Thank you. I was scared you'd want somethin' big."
"Nah," Zay said, pulling her closer. "Big or small, I just want you. That's all that matter to me."
Gabby leaned into him, a soft smile on her face. "You really my person, Zay."
"And you mine," he said, kissing her forehead.
Later That Night
As they lay in bed, Gabby started doodling in her notebook again, sketching ideas for a small ceremony. Zay watched her, his hand resting on her leg.
"You know, you could wear somethin' simple too," he said. "You don't gotta do all that big dress stuff if you don't want to."
Gabby chuckled. "You just don't wanna wear a tux."
Zay laughed. "You know me too well."
She shook her head, smiling. "I'll think about it. But for real, Zay, I just want it to feel like us. Nothing too fancy. Just love."
Zay nodded, his eyes soft as he looked at her. "Then that's exactly what we gon' do."
