Hoseok stood in front of the sleek glass doors of Eclipse Enterprises, clutching his updated CV. His nerves were all over the place, but his determination outweighed any lingering hesitation. He had made a small but necessary change on his CV, upping his age to nineteen instead of seventeen. Honesty clearly hadn’t worked before, and desperate times called for desperate measures.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped inside. The cool air-conditioning greeted him, calming the sheen of sweat on his brow. The secretary from yesterday was already seated behind his desk, busy typing on the computer. Hoseok bowed politely, his voice soft but clear.
“Good morning.”
The man looked up, his eyes narrowing slightly as he recognized Hoseok. After a moment, he returned the greeting. “Good morning. You’re early today.”
Hoseok nodded. “Yes, sir. I wanted to give this another try.”
The man leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. “Well, you’re in luck. The boss is actually here today—but he won’t be staying long.”
Hoseok’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really? Where is he?”
The secretary picked up his phone, dialing a number. A moment later, a woman emerged from a nearby office, impeccably dressed in a sharp black suit. She stood with a professional demeanor, waiting for instructions.
“Escort this gentleman to the boss’s office,” the secretary instructed.
The woman nodded, gesturing for Hoseok to follow her. “This way, please.”
Excitement bubbled in Hoseok’s chest as he followed her to the elevator. His steps were light, and for a moment, he couldn’t help but press his hand against his slightly growing baby bump. Despite everything, that small life inside him gave him hope.
The elevator ride was brief but nerve-wracking. Hoseok rubbed his sweaty palms together, his heart racing with every passing floor. When they finally arrived, the doors opened to reveal a spacious hallway lined with polished wood and elegant décor.
They stopped in front of two large, imposing doors. The woman knocked politely before opening one side slightly.
“Sir,” she called out, her tone respectful. “Someone has applied for a job.”
From inside, a deep, commanding voice responded. “Bring them in.”
She stepped back and opened the door wider, turning to Hoseok with a small smile. “You can go in now.”
Hoseok nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat. “Thank you.”
He stepped inside, closing the door softly behind him. His eyes scanned the luxurious office, taking in the floor-to-ceiling windows, the grand mahogany desk, and the leather chairs. Then his gaze landed on the man seated behind the desk, his head bent as he signed a document.
Hoseok’s breath hitched. His heart dropped into his stomach.
It was him.
The man from yesterday. The one he’d argued with. The one he’d drenched in coffee.
Taehyung.
Hoseok froze, his wide eyes betraying his panic as realization hit him like a freight train. This wasn’t just some CEO—this was the CEO. The same man he’d insulted and walked away from without a second thought.
Taehyung looked up, his pen pausing mid-signature. For a moment, his face mirrored Hoseok’s shock, but then a slow, devilish smirk spread across his lips.
“Well, well, well,” Taehyung drawled, leaning back in his chair. His sharp eyes glinted with amusement. “If it isn’t my little friend from yesterday.”
Hoseok gulped, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.
Taehyung chuckled darkly, his deep voice filled with satisfaction. “Karma is really a bitch, isn’t it?”
