Ace stares with wide eyes, almost jumping out of his seat,
"Bwah?! Housewarden!"
Before he can make the situation any worse for himself, Cater swoops in to try and smooth it over,
"Hey Riddle! What's shakin' pal? You're lookin' adorbs, as always!"
Unfortunately, Cater's charismatic flattery isn't enough to distract their Housewarden.
"Hmph. Cater, keep running that mouth and you'll lose it—along with the rest of your head."
Cater takes what Riddle says seriously, letting out a nervous apology,
"Sorry, sorry! My bad!"
If the energy isn't already tense, Grim decides to make it worse and points at Riddle,
"Myah?! You're the guy who put that stupid collar on me at the orientation ceremony!"
"And you're the new students who were nearly expelled yesterday. I'll ask that you not refer to my signature spell as a "stupid collar"."
The Housewarden throws back at Grim, staring down the little beast and Prefect, unimpressed. But he doesn't dwell much on them, instead moving on to give his opinion to the Devil Fruit user,
"I'm quite disappointed you chose not to join Heartslabyul, it would have done you well to properly learn how to follow the rules."
'This guy-!'
Ignoring the twitch of her eye, Riddle turns back to the freshmen,
"The Headmage's habit of tolerating rulebreakers like you is going to send thus entire campus spiraling into chaos one day. Those who break the rules should have their heads removed immediately, without exception."
Y/n can feel an irk mark forming on her head as she listens to him spouting his nonsense. Now she really wants to knock some sense into him.
Ace whispers to the group,
"Dude, seriously? This guy looks like a wimp, but talks like a monster!"
"Don't judge a book by its cover, you might regret it ya know.",
Y/n whispers back to him, if he's smart he'll actually take it to heart.
"Tch. Yeah, should've learnt that from you."
Accidentally muttering that last part louder than intended, Ace regains his Housewardens attention,
"The Headmage may have forgiven you, but if you break any further rules, I assure you I will not."
Despite being intimidated by Riddle's strictness, Ace figures that now is a good a moment to ask,
"So, uh, listen, Housewarden, sir... Any chance I could get you to remove this collar?"
"I had intended to remove it once you'd taken an opportunity to reflect upon your crimes. But I've not detected so much as a hint of remorse in the foolishness I've heard you spout today. So I think I'll let you keep that for a while.",
An unsurprising turn of events. The Devil Fruit user is sure Riddle would have given him two collars if possible, just for talking about him.
Riddle still reassures Ace, informing him that the freshmen do more theory than practice. It doesn't make Ace feel any better, but at least now he knows. Ready to end the conversation, their Housewarden gives them one final lecture,
"Now, if you've finished your meal, you should quit gossiping and prepare for your next class. Rule 271 is quite clear: "one must leave the table within fifteen minutes of completing their lunch".",
