From the sky, the dark haired male can see the woman staring with doe eyes, her gaze shifting between the students flying around and the broom in her hand. After a few seconds, she runs up to her bag to do something, the broom remaining in her hand.
For a moment, Malleus thinks about the Devil Fruit user's situation and her lack of magic. He considers leaving her to her own devices, Y/n not having the magical capabilities required to fly makes the assignment basically impossible for her. She is clearly aware of this, but instead of stubbornly trying or talking to the coach about it, she's doing... something else?
Even with his incredible sight and hearing, the Diasomnia Housewarden can't quite figure out what she's doing. The device she holds is familiar to him, but at the same time foreign with the odd sound it's making- is he hearing wind?
Once more, Y/n piques his interest.
Gracefully returning to the ground, the dark haired male approaches her. Before he can get too close though, he watches her hover over the broom, as the woman adjusts her left hand to have an iron grip on the broom, the right one holds the device.
Just as he's almost within her reach, she shoots up into the sky without a warning, a shriek escapes her as she goes further up.
"Y/n!"
Catching up to her isn't a challenge, but he doesn't have to fly for long as just as suddenly she had shot up, her speed fades and she starts falling. He reaches out to catch her, but excited laughter cuts him off.
"Hahahaha!!! I can't believe how great that worked! Mal, did you see that!? One moment I'm on the ground, the next I'm whoosh and up here!"
Relieved by the fact that she's alright, the Diasomnia Housewarden is still unsure of what happened. Observing how the Devil Fruit user loses altitude over and over again, only to shoot ever so slightly back up to her previous height. All of this due to the shell-like object she's holding, pointing towards the ground?
Despite the absurdity of the situation, Malleus can't help but be amused,
"Heh, you truly are full of surprises."
From afar, Coach Curtis observed their interaction meticulously. Originally, his intent with this exercise wasn't just to check everyone's current level, but to see how Y/n, a magicless student, would proceed. He had overheard a few bits about her and the other magicless boy, and after pressing the Headmage for more information, it all seemed stranger.
Specifically with the girl, there was something... wrong about her, it's unnatural.
Curtis isn't surprised the other faculty members who met her don't sense it, but instead of denying anything, Crowley outright dismisses it, claiming it was no reason for concern.
Not to accuse her of anything, of course. It's too soon to make any claims against her. He might reach out to some contacts to help him investigate. For now, he'll be keeping a close eye on her.
Back to Malleus and Y/n, the woman is left kicking her legs frantically in an attempt to move forward, all to no avail. The Diasomnia Housewarden offers to simply pull her along, but the woman rejects,
"No. I gotta do this on my own, or else it won't count."
The Devil Fruit user's voice is serious and her gaze hardens. Considering the situation, most people would find her intensity over dramatic. Malleus, however, isn't sure of his feelings. All he's sure about is that he's never met someone like Y/n.
Before they know it, Coach Curtis whistles, calling all the students back down and dismissing them.
Looking at her schedule, Y/n is delighted to see it's her favorite time of the day,
