Chapter 20
Mama Bee (Monica Burgos)
I rolled off of G's chest completely out of breath. After running errands with him all morning, we finally decided to take a break, check into a hotel and have some us time, if you know what I mean.
"Do we really have to go back to reality?" he asked running a hand down my back. I looked up into his handsome dark eyes and nodded my head. As much as I wanted to be lying here in my husbands arm, pretending our little world was perfect, I knew I couldn't. We had a family to go out and protect.
"Yes baby. I wanna lay here with you all day too, but someone's after us and I just couldn't take it if someone harmed my baby."
That got him up and moving. To say Ivy was his heart was an understatement. Growing up he always said he'd never love another woman as much as he loved me, but I knew Ivy and I were running neck and neck. He worshipped the ground his baby girl walked on.
"Come on Bee, you moving to slow. Matter fact, toss me my phone. I bet she's been blowing her daddy up."
I just laughed and reached onto the nightstand for G's phone. Once I turned it back on, it began going crazy with calls and text messages. He had about 5 missed calls from Kellen and Ivy, a few texts from Officer Taylor, and a missed call from an unknown number. I immediately pressed Ivy's name and called her back first. After about 3 rings she picked up.
"Hey baby," I cooed into the phone.
"Mom!" I could hear the panic all in her voice.
"Calm down, baby. I know we haven't answered any phone calls but your daddy and I—"
"No mom listen! Someone burned the house down in Spring, Kellen took us all to Galveston and we're staying here at the Hilton. Something really crazy just went down and you and Daddy have got to get here ASAP."
I brought my hand up to my mouth and my lip started quivering. I couldn't have heard her right. Someone burned down the house in Spring? Impossible.
"Mom are you still there?" I faintly heard Ivy's voice ask on the other end of the phone.
"I'm here baby. Daddy and I are on the way. Stay safe. I love you okay?"
"Okay, I love you too, Mom. Hand Daddy the phone, Kellen wants to talk to him."
I got up from the bed and handed Giovanni the phone without saying a word. My mind was moving a mile a minute. There was so many questions I wanted to ask. So many questions that would go unanswered until we reached my babies in Galveston. They both knew better than to discuss anything over the phone.
I quickly began gathering some clothes so that I could take a shower. I repacked my bag and rushed to the restroom to take care of my hygiene routine. When I returned to the room G was sitting on the bed with him his hand over his face. I knew then that this situation was a lot more serious than we both thought. I walked over to him and sat down beside him.
