Chapter 30

Caya

Kali's last words replayed in my head like a broken record. My chest began to tighten and I could feel the sweat dripping from my palms. My eyes darted around frantically in search of my baby's curly sandy brown hair. Before my brain could react, my feet carried me in the direction of the train ride he and Kali had previously been on. I swiftly moved through the crowd, knocking anyone down that got in my way.

"Caya slow down!" I heard Tahj's deep baritone call out to me, but I was on a mission. I was not leaving this park without my son. Like Tahj said earlier, this was my second chance and I refused to have it ripped away from me.

I felt my body being spun around and I tried my hardest to fight whoever it was off. My arms swung wildly trying to losen the hold around my waist.

"Let me go! Get off of me! I need to find CJ! I need to find my son!" I screamed.

Their grip tightened around me and his soft voice caressed my ear. "Caya please calm down. We're going to find him, but I need you to calm down." I recognized the voice as Tahj's.

"I can't," I cried. "I can't. I need to find my baby." Tahj loosened his grip on me, and I took that as an opportunity to take off running again.

I ran in the direction of the bathrooms, thrusting the door open and searching all the stalls for any sign of CJ. Coming up empty handed, I sighed and leaned my back against the wall.

"Pull yourself together Cay." I coached myself. "Everything is gonna be okay, CJ is okay." Although I said the words outloud I truly didn't believe them. My stomach began twisting up in knots as tears spilled out of my eyes.

I tightly clutched my stomach and ran over to the trashcan and emptied the contents. I continued hurling until I was simply dry heaving. I started crying even harder just thinking about the possibility of never being able to see my love ever again.

"Caya baby, you okay?" I heard Ivy's soft voice whisper.

I kept my back turned to her because I was sure I looked like shit. She wrapped her arms around my shoulder and spun me around. Just the simple contact made me cry even harder. I laid my head on her shoulder and let all my frustrations out.

"It's okay Cay, let it all out." She rubbed her hand up and down my back.

"W-we we're ju-just watching them Ivy."

"Shhh, it's okay we'll find him Cay. It's not your fault."

"But it is my fault Ivy! I'm his mother and I should've been watching him more carefully. I'm a failure at parenting and you know it!" I sobbed.

Ivy pulled me away from her and stared at me intently. "No Caya, you are not a horrible parent. CJ is three years old and he can count to 40, he knows his alphabet and can even recognize letters. He can tell the difference between money, and he's honestly one of the smartest little kids I know. Yes you may have slipped up, but we're human...we all make mistakes."

Ivy's words did a little to console me, but I still felt like a sorry excuse for a parent. My son had been kidnapped right under my nose.

"Let's get out of here and head back to the house so we can plan our next move."
