Chapter 21
Ivy
"You know when I was living out in the streets, this couple used to always pass by me. The dude always walked on the edge of the street, cause he ain' want his lady to get hit by a car, yanno?" Kellen laughed. "Anyways, they always held hands, and you could just tell by their body language, and the way they gazed into each others' eyes that they were in love. One day I was going in the CVS to buy myself a clean shirt and he offered to buy it for me. Of course I turned him down, cause a nigga ain' want no hands outs. But his girl came up and insisted until I agreed. He told me 'ain' no sense in arguing with her man, she's always gets her way.' They started a little play argument right there and then shared a kiss. Whenever I saw them I could just feel the love radiating off of them both." He turned his body a little so he could look down at me.
"That's so beautiful," I whispered.
"Yeah, it was. Everyday I started paying close attention to them. He'd always open the door for her, hold her hand, and steal kisses when she least expected it. I always wanted to love someone that hard. I never thought it was possible you know. I never thought I was capable of loving someone, considering the fact that I was homeless because no one obviously loved me enough to help."
I could feel his body tensing up, so I reached up and stroked his scruffy cheek while looking into his beautiful brown eyes.
"I thought I could never love that hard, until I met you. You keep me goin', ma. You the reason a nigga get up in the mornings and go hard. You're the reason I wanna do better for myself. I grind cause I wanna be able to buy you a house as nice as this. I wanna keep you livin' tha life that you accustomed to livin'." He confessed. My heart swelled at his honesty, but truth is I loved this man so much, I'd be with him if we were back in the hood.
"Material things don't mean anything to me...even if you couldn't give me all that, I'd still love you Kellen."
He puckered his lips and twisted them to the side while giving me a look like he didn't believe me. I laughed.
"Okay, maybe material things do matter. But, what I want you to understand is that I love you because you're my protector. As corny as it sounds, you're my knight in shining armor. Whenever you're around I know I'm safe. You give me a rush I've never felt before. Everything about you is perfect to me. Your flaws are your battle wounds, and they're sexy as hell. You think I keep you going, but it's really the opposite. You're the reason I'm changing for the better. You're the reason I got a job at Tilly's."
He lifted my chin, and brought his lips to mine. As soon as they meshed together, no other words were needed. I could feel how much he loved me through the passion in our kiss. I closed my eyes and relished in the feeling. I would stay like this forever. He pulled away from my lips and ended the kiss with a few pecks.
"I love you," I whispered against his soft, pink lips.
"I love you too, Ivy."

I woke up in an unfamiliar room. I looked down at my arms to see an IV hooked up to it. My throat felt drier than the sahara, and my entire body ached.
"We got him," I heard Snipe's voice say.
I pointed to the water on the side of the bed. He poured some water in the paper cup and handed it to me. I generously drank from the cup and passed it back to him.
