"I JUST RECEIVED a wedding invitation from Hayashida Haruki. He's your friend from your old gang, right? I think you used to call him Pah-chin before."

I lay on the bed with my naked body only wrapped in a thin white sheet when my husband, Mikey, came back to the bedroom with a glass of water in his hand and was wearing only his boxers. I was sore and exhausted from the intense pleasure we shared not too long ago and could still feel the lingering sensation of his touch on my flushed skin. The raw and passionate sex we had always left me breathless, but I still felt satisfied.

Mikey helped me sit up on the bed and handed the glass to me to satiate my thirst. "Thank you," I said as I gulped the water in one go, feeling the cool liquid soothe my parched throat.

He hummed in recognition of the name and crawled back to bed next to me. "Pah, huh. Are you planning to attend?"

I placed the empty glass on the nightstand and turned to him, nodding my head. "Yes. I already cleared up my schedule that day. I'm just curious to see how everyone is doing since it's been years." I watched his expression turn blank and asked him carefully, "Don't you want me to go?"

He shook his head. "No, it's fine. I'm not forbidding you, Y/N. You may go see them as you please."

"What about you? Aren't you going to meet them? I'm sure they want to see you."

His face remained unreadable. "You know I can't do that, Y/N. I've already cut ties with them ever since I chose this path. I could never go back to that life again."

I lowered my head, getting his point. I sometimes couldn't help but feel sad for him. I knew deep down that Mikey still missed his old life and his friends. That's why I chose to stay with him so that he wouldn't feel alone. I would even go to greater lengths in supporting his evil deeds to at least help share the burden with him. I had to be there to always put him in check just in case he succumbed to his inner demons.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have brought it up," I muttered apologetically.

Mikey placed a hand on my cheek and lifted my head to make me face him. "I'm not upset, Y/N. You're not at fault," he spoke. "Do you need a bodyguard? I could ask Kakucho to accompany you to the wedding and have you guard from afar so you don't have to feel uncomfortable around everyone."

"Alright, I think that would be a great idea," I concurred, thinking it was the right thing to do. Enemies might be lurking around and having a bodyguard would more or less ensure my safety. Kakucho was also someone I'm already familiar with and I knew he was one of the few people Mikey could trust to protect me. "Thank you. I appreciate it."
