Jahmelle's Place
6:10am
Damon
I was sitting in the kitchen, deep in thought. Yesterday was a hell of a day, I can't believe what happened to Vonté. He got robbed and attacked, got shot at, and got his house burned down, all within an hour apart from each other. I wanted to tell the police what happened but I'm pretty sure that they are piecing everything together down there and then I called Dante and told them what happened so there's no doubt in my mind that he's working with the police down there to see what they can do. Alex needed to be taken care of and taken care of quickly. All of this because of me, I couldn't believe it. I felt bad for Vonté so I told him he could come and stay with me and Jahmelle until we could figure out something for him.
"Morning." I heard Vonté say as he came into the kitchen, startling me a bit.
"You good Damon?"
"Nah not really, just wondering what i can do about all of this."
"Not a damn thing, you have to let the police handle it. It's not worth it man, that bum isn't worth it."
"I don't know how you could even say that, that asshole is the reason you don't have a house anymore, and your pops restaurant was basically vandalized and robbed."
"I know all of that but hey as long as I have my sanity and health that's what matters."
"You're a better man than I could ever be." I told Vonté. "I'm sorry i put you through all of this though, you don't deserve none of this shit man, none of it." I told him.
"It's cool, I wouldn't change any of it for anything Damon." He smiled. "You want some breakfast?"
"Oh hell nah you bet not cook for me this morning Vonté, how about i cook for you?"
"And what you gonna cook for me?"
"Some food." I busted out laughing.
"Nope, nope, you tell me what you're gonna cook for me."
"Well i'm gonna cook bacon, eggs, and toast. It's not gonna be anything fancy." I laughed.
"Well for all that i might as well grab a bowl of cereal." He laughed. "I'm just messing with you. Go ahead and do your thing chef." He continued laughing. "Don't go getting butthurt." He kept on laughing.
"Be quiet, don't wake Jahmelle up, Smart ass." I smirked. "I got you though."
I could tell as I was making the food for him he got a bit tense, I could tell that something was definitely on his mind.
"So what could be on your mind at this moment?"
Hell, everything to be honest. This whole situation is fucked up to be honest. I don't even know if I'm going to go back to Madison." He told me. "And then it's something else too, i haven't told you."
"Well what is it?"
"Well everything that led up to this. He told me to choose who's side I was on, he said pick whether I would side with you or him." I began. "He already knew my choice, which is why all this happened."
"I am so sorry I caused all of this."
"Like I said, I wouldn't have picked anything different. You've been through so much in life, you deserve some type of happiness for real."
"You're a good friend Vonté, I mean that. I'm glad I met you." I said as I continued cooking his food. "And I'm gonna make this right man, I'm gonna make it right." I told him as I flipped the bacon and eggs over. "I'm gonna make sure you're able to get a house built or get a place of your own, even if it's an apartment. As long as it's some place you can call home."
"Awww i don't ever think i'd be able to call any place home again, especially a place like that. It had sentimental value."
"What do you mean?"
"Well that place was my grandma & great grandma's place. My dad and uncle were raised there. When my grandmother kept me off and on during summer I was raised there. I grew to love that place." When my grandmother passed back in 1999 she left me that place. In her will she stated that as soon as i turned 18 that the house would be passed onto me. The house was paid off and everything." He told me. I turned the stove off and i walked over to him.
"I am so so sorry Vonté, i honestly mean that." I told him, he shed a few tears.
"Yo it's nothing really..."
"Nah, fuck that!" I said, pounding my hand on the table. "I didn't know your place had that much value and history for you." I told him. "Even if it didn't, what happened was still wrong and it shouldn't have happened."
"It's a lot of things in life that shouldn't happen but it's life." He said. "I believe life has a way of paying those back that dish out evil & hatred onto others. I'm not much of a spiritual person but I believe in Karma & in justice." He said. "In due time things will work itself out." He said.
"In due time." I told him. "Well you go ahead and eat your food." I smiled at him. I don't know what it is about him, he just, he has a heart of gold it seems.
