Short au, angst (?), fluff
The soft glow of the desk lamp was the only light in the room, casting long shadows on the cluttered surface. Hyunjin sat slumped in his chair, his head buried in his hands. His desk was a chaotic mess of unfinished sketches, scribbled notes, and empty coffee mugs. The laptop in front of him displayed a blank canvas—an irritating reminder of the work he couldn’t seem to start.
His chest felt tight, his breathing uneven as waves of frustration and helplessness crashed over him. He’d been sitting here for hours, trying to summon the energy and focus to work, but his mind was stuck, trapped in a fog of exhaustion.
From the doorway, Jeongin watched quietly. He could tell something was wrong. Hyunjin’s back was tense, his movements sharp and jerky. Jeongin knew this side of Hyunjin well—the side that bottled everything up until it overflowed.
“Hyun?” Jeongin called softly, stepping into the room.
Hyunjin didn’t look up. “What do you want?” he asked sharply, his tone laced with irritation.
Jeongin frowned but kept his voice calm. “You’ve been in here all night. Maybe it’s time to take a break?”
“I don’t need a break,” Hyunjin snapped, his tone harsher now. “I need to get this done. If you’re just here to nag, leave me alone.”
Jeongin’s heart clenched at the sharpness in Hyunjin’s words. He took a step closer, trying to keep his tone steady. “I’m not nagging. I’m just worried about you. You haven’t eaten or rested—”
“Jeongin, I said leave me alone!” Hyunjin’s voice rose, cutting through the quiet room like a blade. “Why can’t you just stop hovering for once? You’re not helping!”
The words hung in the air, heavy and stinging. Jeongin’s eyes widened, and for a moment, he froze. He hadn’t expected Hyunjin to lash out like this. His lips parted as if to respond, but no words came out. His eyes glistened, and he quickly looked down, his hands gripping the edge of his shirt.
“I—I was just trying to help,” Jeongin whispered, his voice trembling. “I’ll… leave you alone.”
Hyunjin’s heart sank the moment the words left his mouth. He watched as Jeongin turned away, his shoulders hunched, and guilt hit him like a freight train. Jeongin never deserved that. He was just trying to care for him, to be there for him, and Hyunjin had snapped at him like it was his fault.
“Jeongin,” Hyunjin called, his voice softer now. He stood up, taking a step toward him. “Wait.”
Jeongin paused but didn’t turn around. His head was tilted slightly downward, and Hyunjin could see the tension in his frame.
“I’m sorry,” Hyunjin said, his voice breaking. “I didn’t mean that. Please don’t go.”
Jeongin turned slightly, his lips pressed into a thin line. “You yelled at me,” he said quietly. “I was just worried about you, Hyun. You didn’t have to yell.”
Hyunjin felt his chest tighten at the hurt in Jeongin’s voice. Without thinking, he closed the distance between them and wrapped his arms around Jeongin, holding him tightly. Jeongin stiffened at first, but Hyunjin didn’t let go.
“I’m sorry,” Hyunjin repeated, his voice shaky. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I’m so, so sorry. I’m just… I’m so tired, Innie. I feel like I’m falling apart, and I took it out on you. That wasn’t fair.”
Jeongin stayed still for a moment before he let out a shaky breath, his hands coming up to rest against Hyunjin’s chest. “You scared me,” he admitted softly. “You never yell at me.”
Hyunjin’s heart shattered at those words. He pulled back just enough to cup Jeongin’s face, his thumbs brushing away the tears that had started to fall. “I know, baby. I know, and I hate that I did that to you. I hate myself for hurting you. You’re the last person I ever want to hurt.”
Jeongin looked up at him, his eyes searching Hyunjin’s face. “Do you mean that?”
“Of course, I mean it,” Hyunjin said, his voice earnest. “You’re everything to me, Jeongin. I don’t know what I’d do without you. Please forgive me.”
Jeongin hesitated for a moment before nodding. “I forgive you,” he said softly. “But you have to promise me something.”
“Anything,” Hyunjin said immediately.
“Promise me you’ll stop doing this to yourself,” Jeongin said, his voice firm. “You don’t have to carry everything alone, Hyun. I’m here for you. Let me help you.”
Hyunjin’s eyes softened, and he nodded. “I promise,” he said. “I’ll try.”
“That’s all I ask,” Jeongin said with a small smile.
Hyunjin leaned down, pressing a gentle kiss to Jeongin’s forehead. “Thank you,” he murmured. “For always being patient with me. I don’t deserve you.”
“You do,” Jeongin said simply, wrapping his arms around Hyunjin’s waist. “You just don’t see it.”
Hyunjin held him tightly, as if letting go would make him disappear. “You’re too good to me.”
Jeongin smiled against his chest. “Someone has to be.”

Later, after they had cleaned up and Hyunjin had eaten something at Jeongin’s insistence, the two of them climbed into bed. Hyunjin pulled Jeongin close, his arms wrapped securely around him.
“Mine,” Hyunjin murmured, his voice soft but possessive.
Jeongin chuckled, pressing a kiss to Hyunjin’s collarbone. “Yours,” he replied. “Always.”
Just as they were settling in, a soft bark came from the doorway. Kkami padded into the room, his tail wagging as he looked up at them.
“Kkami,” Hyunjin called, his tone lightening. “Come here, baby.”
The small dog jumped onto the bed, nuzzling against Hyunjin before curling up between them. Jeongin laughed softly, stroking Kkami’s fur. “Looks like someone wants to join us.”
Hyunjin smiled, his hand resting on Kkami’s back. “He always knows when to make things better,” he said fondly.
Jeongin looked up at him, his eyes shining with affection. “So do you,” he said softly.
Hyunjin’s gaze softened, and he leaned down to kiss Jeongin gently. “I love you,” he murmured against his lips.
“I love you too,” Jeongin replied, his voice full of warmth.
With Kkami nestled between them and Jeongin safe in his arms, Hyunjin felt a sense of peace he hadn’t felt in weeks. The deadlines and pressures of university could wait. For now, he had everything he needed right here.
As sleep began to claim him, Hyunjin whispered one last time, “Thank you, Innie. For everything.”
Jeongin smiled, his voice a soft murmur in the quiet room. “Always.”
And together, with Kkami snoring softly beside them, they drifted off to sleep, wrapped in each other’s love.
