Short au, fluff
The neon lights of Seoul gleamed against the windows of their sleek van as Stray Kids wrapped up another day of relentless schedules. Hyunjin and I.N sat side by side, their hands brushing every now and then in the confined space. Across the van, Minho and Jisung exchanged fleeting glances, speaking in a silent language only they understood. They were masters of secrecy.
Dating was off-limits for idols like them—especially relationships that defied the expectations of fans, managers, and an industry still bound by rigid norms.
But love wasn’t something they could control. It bloomed quietly in stolen moments backstage, in whispered confessions after practice, and in the way their hearts raced when their eyes met.
Despite the secrecy, they had each other. And sometimes, that made all the difference.
---
It was a rare day off, and the four of them had planned their secret rendezvous with the precision of a heist. Hyunjin had taken the lead, choosing the meeting spot—a tucked-away arcade in Hongdae—and coordinating their disguises: oversized hoodies, caps, and masks.
“Honestly, we look more suspicious like this,” Jisung muttered as he tugged his hood further down.
“Stop complaining,” Minho said, his voice firm but fond. “You’d rather be recognized?”
“No, but I don’t want to look like I’m about to rob the place either.”
Jeongin laughed softly from beside Hyunjin, who tightened his grip on Jeongin’s hand under the cover of their long sleeves. “You two bicker more than an old married couple,” Hyunjin teased, earning a glare from Jisung.
Inside the arcade, the atmosphere was lively but not overwhelmingly crowded—a perfect spot for them to blend in. Minho and Jisung gravitated toward the claw machines, while Hyunjin led Jeongin to a nearby air hockey table.
---
Hyunjin’s competitive streak emerged almost immediately. “You think you can beat me?” he asked, his eyes gleaming with mischief as he handed Jeongin a paddle.
Jeongin smirked, a rare moment of confidence flashing across his face. “You’re underestimating me, Hyung.”
The match began, and Jeongin’s focus was intense. Hyunjin, however, spent more time admiring Jeongin’s determined expression than watching the puck, resulting in a humiliating defeat.
“Ten to three? Seriously?” Jeongin teased, his grin lighting up his entire face.
Hyunjin leaned on the table, feigning dramatic defeat. “I let you win because I love you, obviously.” He shot Jeongin a wink that sent the younger’s heart racing.
Nearby, Minho was busy demonstrating his expertise with the claw machine. “It’s all about precision,” he said as he skillfully maneuvered the claw to grab a stuffed penguin.
Jisung rolled his eyes. “Wow, so impressive,” he said sarcastically, though his slight pout betrayed his annoyance.
“Jealous much?” Minho smirked, holding up the penguin triumphantly.
Jisung snatched the tokens from him. “Move over. I’ll show you how it’s done.”
Five failed attempts later, Jisung was ready to declare war on the machine. “This thing is rigged!” he exclaimed, stomping his foot.
Hyunjin and Jeongin, who had come to watch, burst into laughter. “At this rate, Jeongin and I will clear out the entire arcade before Jisung gets one prize,” Hyunjin said.
Minho, clearly amused, leaned against the machine. “Want me to win you something, Hannie?” he asked, his tone mockingly sweet.
Jisung turned red. “No, I don’t need your pity!”
Ignoring him, Minho used the last token to grab a small plush dog. He handed it to Jisung with a smirk. “Here. For my favorite sore loser.”
Jisung grumbled but clutched the toy tightly, his heart secretly swelling at the gesture.
---
After the arcade, they made their way to a small café known for its private booths. The barista didn’t bat an eye at their disguises, much to their relief, and they settled into a corner booth away from the windows.
Hyunjin and Jeongin sat on one side, their legs pressed together under the table, while Minho and Jisung took the other. The table quickly became a battlefield of playful banter.
“So, Jeongin,” Minho began, “what’s it like carrying Hyunjin in air hockey?”
Hyunjin gasped in mock offense. “Excuse me, I let him win out of love. Not everyone is a sore loser like Jisung.”
Jisung, who had been sipping his drink, nearly choked. “Why am I always the target?”
“Because you’re an easy one,” Jeongin quipped, earning a round of laughter.
Minho smirked, reaching over to ruffle Jisung’s hair. “Don’t worry, Hannie. You’re my favorite target.”
Jisung swatted his hand away, though his cheeks were flushed.
The teasing gave way to quieter moments as they shared pastries and sipped on coffee. Hyunjin leaned toward Jeongin, whispering, “This is nice, isn’t it? Just the four of us.”
Jeongin nodded, his eyes soft. “It feels…normal.”
Hyunjin reached under the table, giving Jeongin’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “One day, it won’t have to be a secret.”
On the other side of the table, Minho watched Jisung attempt to draw a smiley face in the foam of his latte, his brows furrowed in concentration. “You’re terrible at that,” Minho commented.
Jisung shot him a glare but smiled when Minho took the cup and drew a flawless heart in the foam instead. “Show-off,” Jisung muttered, but he couldn’t hide his smile.
---
Later that night, they returned to the dorms, slipping back into the routine of secrecy.
Hyunjin found his way to Jeongin’s room, sitting on the edge of the younger’s bed. “You’ve been quiet since we got back,” Hyunjin said, his voice soft.
Jeongin hesitated, then admitted, “I just…wish we could do things like that without worrying. Without hiding.”
Hyunjin cupped Jeongin’s cheek, tilting his face up. “I know. But I don’t care what anyone says, Jeongin. You’re worth it. We’re worth it.”
He leaned in, pressing a lingering kiss to Jeongin’s lips.
"I love you," he muttered against Jeongin's lips.
"Love you, too, Jinnie." Jeongin smiled before connecting their lips again.
In the next room, Jisung was sprawled out on Minho’s bed, clutching the plush dog from earlier. Minho joined him, lying down and pulling Jisung close.
“Today was fun,” Jisung murmured, his voice muffled against Minho’s chest.
Minho hummed in agreement, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on Jisung’s back. “It was. We’ll do it again soon.”
Jisung yawned, nuzzling closer. “Promise?”
“Promise,” Minho said, pressing a kiss to the top of Jisung’s head. “Now sleep, Hannie.”
In the quiet of the night, with the weight of the world left outside their doors, Hyunjin and Jeongin, Minho and Jisung found solace in each other. Their love, though hidden, was unshakable. And in their hearts, they knew they would find a way to make it last forever.
