The car glides through the Paris streets as the city begins to glow with dusk's warm light. Outside the car window, everything is breathtaking. From the golden glow of the streetlamps, to the soft hum of life on the sidewalks and the intricate facades of buildings that look like they've been plucked straight from a painting. My eyes drink in every detail, from the sparkling Seine to the quaint cafés spilling onto cobblestone streets.
It's so surreal. I can't believe I'm actually here. Paris.
I let out a quiet sigh of awe, my fingers pressing lightly against the window as I lean in to get a better view of a charming flower shop with blooms cascading out of baskets. My heart is fluttering like crazy. I'd dreamed about this city for years, but nothing could've prepared me for how magical it feels.
Excited, I almost yell at Dimitri to look at the view, but thankfully bite my tongue. Glancing to my side, I notice him predictably, glued to his phone again. Ugh. His sharp features are illuminated by the blueish glow of the screen, his brow furrowed in concentration as his thumb scrolls. Not even a single glance outside.
I roll my eyes but keep quiet, biting back a sarcastic comment. Of course, the man who flies me to Paris doesn't even care to look at it.
When the car slows and comes to a smooth stop, I glance up to find us parked in front of an elegant building. The entrance is all lit up, with golden lights spilling out from within and reflecting off the polished glass doors. Even from the outside, it looks expensive. You know, like the kind of place where everything is handmade, and the bill could make someone cry. Me for sure.
"Get out of the car," mob boss mumbles, already opening his own door. I nod quickly and slide out, my heels clicking softly against the pavement as I straighten up.
He is immediately at my side, puting his hand on my back and leading me toward the entrance. Oh, tingles.
The second we step inside, staff members rush to greet us, well him, opening doors, bowing slightly as they usher us through the grand foyer. I bite the inside of my cheek, trying not to fidget as their attention makes my nerves buzz. Everybody just chill out. I know he looks scary, but– actually nevermind..
I glance up at him, and as always, he's completely unfazed. It almost looks like he's bored. I mentally roll my eyes at his poor manners. Would it kill him to greet back?
Then as we walk through the restaurant, I can practically feel eyes on me. Flicking my look around I notice women scowling at me. More precisely at my neck. Their gazes linger a little too long, some of their eyes widen and I can hear a few quiet whispers too. I feel my cheeks warm, and my hand instinctively rises to touch the necklace, as if to shield it from view. Rude to stare ladies.
"Keep walking," Dimitri murmurs lowly, his tone sending a small shiver through me. I drop my hand and follow his lead, focusing on his broad shoulders instead of the curious stares.
We're led to a secluded corner of the restaurant, tucked away from the main dining area. The table is intimate, set with a flickering candle and crisp white linens. Even soft music plays in the background. I swallow hard, nerves tightening in my stomach as Dimitri pulls out a chair for me.
This is our first.. public encounter together since I am fully his. Hello nerveees.
He sits down next to me, the angle of the corner makes it so we're not directly across but slightly angled toward each other. The nervous mess I am, I shift in my seat, glancing at the menu to distract myself from the heat creeping up my neck.
Of course, once again, too many choices don't do me a favor, but I do eventually settle on the vegetable risotto. It sounds yum.
But he needs to be an arrogant ass again, lecturing me on how I haven't properly eaten for five days and that I need more calories. Of course he left out the fact that it was his fault I had lost my apetite. Egocentric jerk.
