Hoseok sat nervously on the couch in his small living room, his fingers twitching as silence wrapped around the room like a thick fog. It was suffocating, heavy, and it only worsened as he glanced at the two men seated on either side of him.
He had just put Lila in her crib, hoping she would stay asleep long enough for this conversation to end quickly. But now, sitting between Yoongi and Jimin, his heart raced, and his thoughts spiraled out of control.
Yoongi cleared his throat, breaking the silence. “How have you been, Hoseok?” he asked cautiously, his voice soft but hesitant.
Hoseok didn’t meet his eyes. He muttered a quiet, “Fine,” his gaze fixed on his fidgeting hands.
Yoongi nodded, his lips pressing into a thin line. He looked as if he wanted to say more, but the words wouldn’t come.
The tension grew heavier until Jimin finally spoke, his voice sharper than Yoongi’s. “When you left, Hoseok… I found out something shocking.”
Hoseok’s head snapped up, his brows furrowing as he turned to look at Jimin. “What are you talking about?”
Jimin took a deep breath, his expression unreadable. “Doctor Kim called me after you disappeared. We talked… and I found out that Lila is mine.”
The air seemed to leave the room as Hoseok froze, his mouth opening and closing like a fish gasping for air. His voice trembled as he finally managed to speak. “How?”
Jimin’s gaze didn’t waver. “Doctor Kim told me that you were already four months pregnant before everything fell apart. That means I’m her father. Unless, of course… you cheated on me back then too.”
Hoseok’s glare was sharp enough to cut, but he bit back a retort and turned his head away, his jaw tightening.
Yoongi, who had been silent, spoke up. His voice was calm, but there was a hint of pain in his tone. “It hurts knowing I don’t have a child with you, Hoseok, but I’m trying to get over it.”
Hoseok let out a shaky breath, nodding slightly but still not looking at either of them. The weight of their words pressed down on him, threatening to crush him.
Yoongi’s voice softened, but there was an edge to it. “You shouldn’t have run away after the divorce, Hoseok. We could’ve talked things through instead of... this.”
Hoseok sighed deeply, the exhaustion evident in his posture. He stood abruptly, turning to face the two men. His voice was firm, though laced with frustration. “If you don’t have anything else to say, you should leave.”
Jimin and Yoongi exchanged a glance before standing as well. But before Yoongi could say a word, Jimin broke the silence. “I want custody of my daughter.”
Hoseok’s eyes widened in disbelief. “What?” he whispered, his voice shaking.
Jimin’s expression hardened. “I don’t trust you with her, Hoseok. You’re living alone, in a neighborhood like this. You can’t protect yourself, let alone a child. I can’t let my daughter be put in danger.”
Yoongi rolled his eyes. He could see through Jimin’s intentions but chose to remain silent. This might work in his favor too.
Hoseok shook his head vehemently, his voice rising. “Lila is my daughter, Jimin! I can protect her just fine. This is a quiet, safe neighborhood—nothing bad will happen to us here!”
But Jimin wasn’t swayed. He stepped closer, his voice colder. “There’s only one option, Hoseok. Either you come stay with me so I can be close to my daughter, or I’ll go to court for full custody. And believe me, I’ll win. I’ll make sure the judge knows all about your… infidelity.”
Hoseok’s eyes filled with tears as they wobbled, his voice cracking as he asked, “Why are you doing this, Jimin? Why?”
Jimin didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he turned and walked to the front door, his movements deliberate. He opened it but paused before stepping out. Without looking back, he spoke coldly. “I expect to see you and my daughter at my house tomorrow.”
The door clicked shut, and the sound reverberated through the silent room. Hoseok glared at the door, his vision blurred with tears. His shoulders trembled as he tried to hold back the sobs threatening to break free.
Yoongi shifted awkwardly, as if wanting to say something, but Hoseok didn’t give him the chance. He turned abruptly and stormed out of the room, his footsteps echoing down the hall.
Yoongi let out a heavy sigh, slumping back against the couch. He ran a hand through his hair, muttering to himself. “Love sucks.”
