'This is just part of the prophecy made for her, the second paper of this prophecy rests with the mystic and was never given to us.'
'Why?'
'Because he found that she had great karma by her side. Great karma helps people change their destiny as well.'
'But Lu Ran told me that you wanted her to marry and...and...'
'We wish her to marry, this is true. But we want her to date and like someone wholeheartedly first. We sought good matches from across the world but she never liked anyone. The mystic told me that she can control her fate and even destiny if she keeps doing good deeds and further fortify her blessings. He had said that the day she truly opens up will be after she has undergone this trial and her choice of man will either benefit her and this kingdom, or else it would lead to her death and the death of millions of people.'
Lu Xang continued, 'we therefore encouraged her to do everything that would keep her engaged in acts of kindnesses and the mystic had told us before departing to the Himalayas that if she has enough good-karma balance, then she will definitely get help in most crucial times, including in her marriage. Thus, she may be able to overthrow the gloomy side of her destiny. Lu Ran's hesitation at present tells me that she is unwilling to marry or is confused about this sudden proposal. I ask you as her father, to let her figure it all out, and let her go if she wants.'
Xi Mang fell silent. This was all too much information for him to process but his mind brushed aside everything.
'I don't believe in these mystics. What they say may never come true...'
'He is the mystic who predicted your grandfather's sudden demise due to curse of a woman whose husband he got murdered for being,' Lu Xang paused, 'disrespectful.'
'He was murdered at the break of dawn merely for failing to properly salute the emperor the day earlier. The woman went crazy and cursed the emperor but he brushed it all aside as the mad talk. But this mystic prophesied then, that a woman's tears will move heaven and that it will deal with the tyrant by striking at an hour of his deepest peace.'
'I think you already know all this. I was still just a mere teenager myself, and he was the one who told me that I will have the fortune that others can only dream of. At that time, I was in abject penury and barely had enough to eat even once daily. I served him dutifully, and nearly became his disciple. I am the living testament of this mystic's precise calculations. And Lu Ran will not be allowed to be forced to do anything that she doesn't want.'
'I only want us to be together.'
'Then you must respect her and her wishes. As her father I only want what is in her best interests and if she says that you are the best for her then I will bless both of you. But, if she says that she doesn't feel any love for you and won't marry you, then, I, Lu Xang, will not allow her to be bullied under any circumstance. I hope we both are clear on this.'
'So, you will fight me?' Xi Mang was stunned at the resolute stance of Lu Xang and laid bare his inner thoughts.
'What father won't? It is really late; I won't keep you any longer prince. I bid you a restful night!'
Lu Xang didn't bother to bow down anymore but made an eye contact that told Xi Mang that if he insisted any further, then it will lead to something that would be unpalatable for the royal family. He went out in a huff with his black silken cloak flying behind as if reflective of his aura color.
Lu Fan joined Lu Xang and told him what she told Lu Ran.
'Tell her to not let Ji Gang out. This prince is controlling and doesn't like anyone interrupting or not doing what he says. Ji Gang will be in trouble if he catches her now.
