Emperor sat up in front of her, and the empress looked at him like the living sees a ghost.
'Oh! Not happy to see me wake up? I forgot, you and Xi Mang planned to kill me. Isn't?
'I...I...,' empress had no idea what to say anymore as her lie-generating brain malfunctioned at the sight of the lively emperor.
I will get that imperial physician beheaded once I save my own skin. Couldn't even kill him in sleep.
'How could you say such a thing, my husband! I am very happy to see you.'
'Really. Why do I feel that you are sad, then?'
'No...'
'Enough with the lies, I will deal with you in a while. Tell me clearly, what did you do to Lu Xang?'
'Nothing. I did nothing!' The emperor took one look at his empress, and knew that her creativity in lying has completely shut down, and her tongue, unhabitual of speaking truth, won't be able to disclose her deeds. He sighed and looked for the attendant who was advising the empress and ordered:
'Attendant, you tell me.'
'Long Live the Emperor, Lu Xang has been arrested on the charges of treason. The crowd has surrounded the palace to seek answers from you, to demand Lu Xang's release, to abolish Prince Xi Mang's office and try him for his crimes.'
The emperor had already heard a lot from the monk. Although at the time, he was still weak and his eyes were closed, yet he had heard monk's conversation with his favourite son. It took him a while to be able to be physically active but the news of Lu Xang's arrest forced him out of bed quickly. He always knew that the royal family stood no chance against Lu Xang and had warned his wife and son in the very beginning. And yet his befuddled empress colluded with the donkey-brained Mang to attack Lu Xang and that too on the charge of treason. Who would believe this cock and bull story in this world? No wonders people are revolting!
'And you say that you did nothing? YOU ARE A DEMONESS! You have come to destroy my kingdom, my happiness, my sons, and my pride. Why don't you just die and let us be!' Emperor shouted at her, and in anger he pushed her down.
'Why don't I die? Pride? Sons? Happiness? Kingdom? You wag your tail in front of that power-hungry lowly merchant and want pride? You cannot save your own son from getting killed for a mere commoner woman and talk about happiness? You are talking about this kingdom but you forget that it was my family who backed you and got you firmly on throne!
'Your family helped me take the throne? Those thieves and corrupt people ate away this kingdom, and were it not for Lu Xang, this royal family you are so proud of would have gotten banished in no time.'
'My father did so much for you and yet you are always deriding my family! Your own family was so corrupt and yet you never say a word for them. You are just a dishonest man; you should abolish your office and pass the throne to me.'
'As if a stupid woman like you can really run a kingdom! Go and shut yourself somewhere while I clean your mess. I will personally charge you for treason and banish you.'
'Like I care!'
Empress stormed out. Her 26 years of marriage, her 26 years of getting demeaned and abused were finally ending, she thought. But before all of this formally ended, she wanted to see witch Lu Ran and make her kneel in front of her. The woman who bought her boys on their knees must be shown her place once at least.
'Get Lu Ran to the side palace. Tell her I want to meet her.'
The attendant went out while the empress waited to see the nemesis that has her whole country and her sons bewitched. Little did she know that Lu Ran had the same idea; she wanted to meet the woman who had the heart to support a cruel man like Xi Mang.
