Alex's POV
Even as a young girl I knew I was weird. At the age of 5, when girls were playing with Barbie Dolls, I was melting ants with magnifying glasses. At the age of ten, when girls were fantasising over having their own pony, I went through my pretending to be a bear phase. My Dad had to get a lot of rabies shots that year. At the age of 13, when most girls were in love with Boy bands such as One Direction and JLS, I had discovered my love for the metal drums. In my middle school days I never had a boyfriend, I was never a cheerleader and I never had many friends. None of the girls didn't like me because I had nothing in commons with them. So all in all I'm a bit tomboyish. And that's okay, I never liked girly things. But as I looked at my reflection in the mirror and saw myself dressed as a boy, I knew that I had gone to far. Let me start from the beginning.
My mom and dad and I Iived in California. Not the part where all the celebrities live. No. I lived in the part where all the drug taking and gang fights happened. It wasn't the best place for a girl to live but helped me because I more street wise. My dad showed me how to use a handgun, for protection. I had to carry it with me a lot. My mom left the picture when I was two. 'I don't want to live in poverty' is what she said. She then got in her car, and drove down to Las Vegas never to be seen again. Good riddance. My Dad on the other hand, is the best dad ever. He supports me in everything I do, and uses the little money we have to make me happy. My dad works in a garage, and basically knows everything there is about cars, so that means I also know everything about cars. Its just the two of us, but that's the way we like it. When I was younger, I discovered my love for basketball. It was a big release of pressure to go out to the court and score. I discovered it when my mum first left. And there were plenty of courts in California, especially in my area. So every day, I went out in the court and practised. I became obsessed with the sport. I had posters of famous basketballers, all my clothes became basketball related, and not to mention I had at least 9 basketballs in the house. I played with the boys in my neighbourhood, so I learned a couple of good moves. When I got to middle school I tried out for the team there and I guess the coach liked what he saw, as I was soon positioned as the new point guard of the girls league. I wasn't placed as captain because nobody likes me. Apparently I had replaced the other point guard who was the most popular girl in school. Oops. Besides having no friends in the school I was happy. The school I went to wasn't great. It had a poor education system much to my disappointment and I was always wanting to go to one of those posh private schools so I could have a better education.
As I trained with my team, we were creeping up the championship board, much to everyone's surprise as we were meant to loose straight away like the years before that. So after many wins and hard training sessions, we had our finals. My coach had let the whole team know, that other coaches from international schools were here watching for talent. In that game I scored 30 baskets. We were really happy that we won the finals. Everyone went to parties afterwards, except for me. They still didn't like me and I knew they never would. As I was walking out of the changing rooms alone, a man in a suit approached me with my coach and my father( who was watching the game). That was where my life was going to change. The man had clearly said that Ouran Accademy in Japan was offering me a basketball scholarship to there school. Apparently my coach had let them know I was good, and inspectors had flown over from Japan to watch my training sessions. I looked at my Dad and we both knew we couldn't refuse an offer like this. I immediately accepted. I thanked my coach for everything he had done for me before I left, as this was all down to him. We packed up all our belongings and left out old lives behind us. It was all going so well until we got to the school.
You see they forgot to mention a few things to us. Even though they were paying for my entire education, it was more complicated than it seemed. Apparently Ouran has no girls league, so in order to attend Ouran on a scholarship I would have to play in the boys league. And in order to play in the boys league I would have to (in the words of the principal) 'act and dress appropriately as a male on the school premises'. Me and my dad both went ballistic. Who in the hell leaves a detail like that out of the description. But we both new we couldn't decline. We both hadn't got enough money to move back to California, and we both knew this school had the best education system in Asia. So we accepted, and here I am. My long black hair tied in a tight bun hidden inside a beanie. I styled the rest of my hair so it looks like I have a side fringe. My Ouran blue blazer looked good on me considering it's meant for a boy. You see I'm quite tall for a girl, and my arms are muscly from the overdose of physical exercise I do. I had to strap my boobs down with tape so I looked flat chested. It actually looked quite believable. I grabbed my bag and slung it over my arm. A lot has changed. Three months ago, I lived in the ghetto in California where I attended a terrible school with no friends. Now I live in the ghetto of Japan, attending the most prestigious school, dressed as a boy. Funnily I really don't know what life is worse.
I took a shaky breath as I took one last look at myself in the mirror. 'This is normal' I try I and convince myself. My dad had already left for work at the local garage. He worked from 6 till 8. Lon hours for minimum pay. I slung my satchel over my shoulder and grabbed my skateboard in my room. In my bag all I had was my old second hand school books, my gym clothes, an apple and a sports drink (since I don't eat lunch) and keys to the apartment. I locked the front door behind me and ran down the flights of stairs in the apartment block. When I reached the bottom, I zoomed past civilians on my skateboard. After minutes of dodging past people, stalls and cars I finally reached the big glamorous gates of Ouran. I stepped off my board and held it in my arms. I stared in awe at the amazing building which is now my school. It is about a thousand times bigger than my old school building. I took in my a shaky breath, and put a hand through my fake side fringe. Time start a much more fancier life.Hi that's my first chapter, the others will be longer and better. If you have any criticism please comment on it.
Love you all xxxx
