you could never really remember exactly when the texts stopped coming as often. you were supposed to talk everyday, like you were with each other the whole day.

"i don't want you to go" you sobbed into your best friend's shoulder, holding him close in a tight hug. he sniffled, suppressing his flooding emotions to be able to comfort you in this moment.

"hey, two years and i'll come back just like i am. i promise." jeongin rubbed your back gently, placing a small kiss on your forehead like he would always do.

"i can't go two years without you, you're my best friend" his heart ached at the sound of your voice breaking and your breaths coming out in choked gasps.

he wanted to make you feel better and tell you that it would pass by so fast, but even he knew that was not true. hell, if a week without seeing you felt like a month to him, what would he do for two years?

"i'll talk to you every single day. i'll text you every two minutes that i'm gone" he uttered, stroking your hair as a tear rolled onto his cheek.

but two minutes turned into two hours, then into two days until he only snap-chatted you every two months. your heart broke at the fact that jeongin may never even come back, and that you'd be left without a best friend forever.

as much as you wanted to move on from him, you just couldn't, even when there was nothing from him besides the occasional outfit checks he posted on instagram, but you barely kept up with those anymore. you couldn't bring yourself to.

the thought of still having feelings for your best friend was ridiculous. his move was supposed to be only temporary, but here you were almost four years later, alone in seoul while jeongin continued his life in a place that didn't include you.

you tried to tell yourself that it didn't matter anymore. you told yourself to stop hoping that he'd still come back one of these days and have you jump back into his arms like he never left. but a part of you still held on for whatever reason.

fast forward to the present day, you walked through the busy city of seoul on the early night of christmas eve.

you shielded yourself from the cold with a scarf which you shed from after walking into the small café — owned by one of your close friends chan — that clearly had a closed sign on the door but looked open.

"merry christmas, why are you still at work?" you chuckled, snapping him out of his trance as he counted the money he'd made from the register.

"ah, my favorite customer. merry christmas, [name]" chan chuckled, leaving behind his task to pull you into a small hug.

"shouldn't you be at home celebrating with the guys?" you asked him, looking around at the place as you took a seat.
