The second the buzzer went off, everyone scattered like fireworks—explosions, ice, some dude swinging across like a wannabe Spider-Man. Me? I kept jogging. Nice and steady, just enough to stay behind the chaos where it was safest.

Ahead, Bakugou was screaming something unintelligible as he blasted past the first set of robots, while Todoroki froze a line of them in one go. I rolled my eyes. Classic overachievers.

The first obstacle was a bunch of giant combat robots. They looked intimidating, sure, but their movements were predictable. I just sidestepped one of their swings like it was nothing, ducking under a second robot's arm without even breaking stride.

"Hey, Woods! You gonna actually try, or are you just here for the free snacks after?" Kaminari called, narrowly dodging a laser blast.

"Snacks," I shouted back, hands still stuffed in my pockets. "Thanks for asking."

The course shifted to a precarious canyon with narrow platforms, some tilting and others crumbling under the weight of students trying to sprint across. I paused at the edge, scanning for the least irritating route. Behind me, a robot's shadow loomed.

"Seriously?" I muttered, tilting my head back just enough to catch a glimpse of the thing's massive arm coming down.

I waited until the last second, then sidestepped again. The robot's arm smashed into the ground, shattering one of the unstable platforms. Perfect.

"Appreciate it," I said, hopping onto a safer section and moving ahead.

Up front, Todoroki was icing over gaps in the canyon, creating a slick path to race across. Meanwhile, Bakugou just blew his way through like a maniac. I stayed a comfortable distance behind, watching the two of them practically fight for the lead.

Halfway across the canyon, the ground beneath me started to crumble. My instincts kicked in before I could think—I lunged forward, barely catching the edge of the next platform.

"Well, that was dramatic," I muttered, pulling myself up.

"Woods! Need a hand?" Mina's voice called from above, her acid already carving footholds into the side of the canyon.

"Nah, I'm good!" I waved her off, climbing up at my own pace.

The final stretch was a minefield, literally. Students ahead of me were getting launched into the air like popcorn as they misjudged the safe zones. Todoroki was already halfway through, calm as ever, while Bakugou just set the mines off on purpose, using the blasts to propel himself forward.

"Idiots," I muttered, eyeing the field.

Carefully, I stepped into the minefield, keeping my movements slow and deliberate. With my quirk active, I could sense the subtle shifts in the field where the mines were planted. Avoiding them wasn't too hard—until someone screamed behind me.

I turned just in time to see a General Studies student running straight at me, panic all over their face. They must've triggered a mine, because the next thing I knew, there was an explosion, and I got shoved forward by the blast wave.

For a moment, everything was noise and dust. My ears rang as I hit the ground, rolling to absorb the impact. When I sat up, coughing, I realized I was somehow closer to the finish line than I'd been before.

"Nice," I said to no one in particular, standing up and brushing off the dirt.

Up ahead, Todoroki crossed the finish line first, followed closely by Bakugou. I jogged the last stretch, ignoring the shocked looks from my classmates as I casually strolled over the line in the middle of the pack.

Kaminari came up beside me, panting. "Dude, you were just—like—chilling the whole time, and you still made it? How?"

"Skill," I said, smirking.

Bakugou stormed over, looking like he was about to explode—again. "YOU WEREN'T EVEN TRYING! WHAT THE HELL, WOODS?!"

I shrugged. "Guess I'm just built different."

Before Bakugou could throw himself at me, Dad's voice came over the speakers.

"Congratulations to those who made it to the next round. Everyone else, better luck next time," he said, completely monotone. Then, after a pause: "Woods, stop antagonizing people."

I looked up at the commentary box, squinting. "Love you too, Dad!"

The class erupted into laughter, even Todoroki cracking a small smirk. I stretched lazily, already planning my next nap. This whole thing was already way more effort than I'd signed up for.
