I leaned against the railing, one booted foot propped lazily on the edge as the crowd roared for Midoriya and Shinso's match. The two faced off in the arena, and Shinso was talking nonstop—trying to bait Midoriya into falling for his brainwashing quirk.
"Not bad," I muttered to myself, watching Midoriya tense up. He looked like a cat caught in headlights. Shinso was solid. Smart. But there was something about Midoriya—something stubborn. Sure enough, Midoriya snapped out of it, green lightning flaring around him as he rushed forward and knocked Shinso out of bounds.
"Predictable," I said, pulling a granola bar out of my pocket.
Next up was Todoroki versus Sero. This one was... short. Poor Sero. The moment Shoto slammed the ice down, Sero didn't stand a chance. The guy looked like a popsicle.
"Brutal," I murmured through a mouthful of granola. I side-eyed Todoroki as he walked back up to the stands. He didn't even look smug—just cold and calculating. Typical.
Kaminari and Shiozaki's match was a shock, literally. Kaminari went all out, but Shiozaki dodged like she was on some divine mission. Her vines wrapped him up and flung him out of the ring. "Sorry, Denki," I muttered under my breath, tossing the rest of the granola into my mouth.
Ida versus Hatsume was... unexpected. Hatsume didn't even try to win. She just turned it into a sales pitch for her inventions. I snorted, shaking my head. "Power move, honestly." Ida's face was tomato-red as he stomped away.
Next was Aoyama versus Mina. I stretched my arms above my head, already calling it. Mina was quick, adaptable, and—best of all—unpredictable. Aoyama couldn't keep up. She dodged his laser and slid in for a clean knockout.
"Nice one, Pinky," I said, clapping lazily as she came back up to the stands, grinning like she just won the lottery.
Then, it was my turn. Ryosuke Woods versus Momo Yaoyorozu.
I rolled my shoulders as I stepped off the stands, ignoring the loud buzz of the crowd. Momo was already in the ring, her expression calm but determined. I respected her. She was smart—like scary smart—and her quirk gave her a ton of options. But if she thought I was gonna take it easy on her because she was Momo Yaoyorozu or because of whatever noise the crowd was spewing, she had another thing coming.
As I stepped into the ring, the crowd's chatter turned into outright yelling.
"He's gonna hurt her!"
"That's not fair! A guy versus a girl? What are they thinking?!"
"Maybe he should sit this one out!"
I tilted my head back, groaning internally. Typical.
"Anytime you're ready," Momo said, her voice steady. She wasn't fazed by the crowd, which I respected even more.
"Yeah, yeah," I replied, waving a hand at her as I adjusted the cuffs of my jacket. I glanced up at the stands, locking eyes with Bakugou, who was already yelling something unintelligible. Great. This day just kept getting better.
As the referee called for us to start, I started humming under my breath, loud enough for Momo to hear.
"This is modern feminism," I sang, completely off-key, before switching to a mocking falsetto. "I expect to run the world in shoes I cannot walk in!"
Momo's lips twitched, and for a second, I thought she might laugh.
"What are you doing?" she asked, raising a staff she'd just materialized from her arm.
"Setting the vibe," I said simply, holding my hands up in mock surrender. "Go ahead. I'll give you the first move."
She didn't hesitate, rushing forward with a calculated swing of her staff. I sidestepped easily, but I didn't counter. Not yet.
"C'mon," I said, circling her as she adjusted her stance. "You've got better than that, right?"
She responded by pulling a flashbang from her side. Smart move. She threw it, and I braced myself, closing my eyes just before it went off. The light burst against my barrier, muted but still blinding. When I opened my eyes, she was already behind me, swinging the staff for my legs.
I jumped, dodging her by a hair.
"Nice," I said, giving her a genuine nod. "You don't mess around."
She didn't respond, already prepping another weapon—a shield this time, with jagged edges. Clever, but predictable.
I let the fight drag on a bit longer, dodging her attacks and occasionally testing her defenses. The crowd had started to simmer down, realizing I wasn't going to obliterate her in the first ten seconds.
When I finally decided to end it, I moved quickly, sliding under her next swing and gently tapping her shoulder from behind. She froze, glancing back at me in surprise.
"You're good," I said quietly, stepping back as the referee declared me the winner. "Seriously."
She gave me a polite nod, catching her breath as we left the arena. I meant what I said—Momo was good. But as I walked back up to the stands, I couldn't help but notice Todoroki watching me with narrowed eyes.
"Still mad about earlier?" I muttered as I passed him.
He didn't respond, but the glare said it all. Great. Round two with him was going to be fun.
