The next day I woke up feeling as if I had only blinked to find the sunlight coming softly through my window, casting a warm glow on the cluttered room, I silenced my alarm, which had been buzzing insistently for a while, I blinked groggily, squinting at the screen of my phone on my nightstand -it was much later than I intended- I didn't get much sleep after Edgar left, how could I? We almost fucking kissed and then I fell on my butt to throw the fries he got me... nice. I rubbed my eyes, rolled over and pushed a tousled mane of hair away from my face, hopefully to see things more clearly. The air was still, filled with the faint scent of yesterday's takeout bag.
As I scrolled through the notifications with increasing urgency, I thought half-hearted apologies to myself for oversleeping and shortened my morning routine.
Scott: Rise and shine, Gracie. We scheduled an acoustic performance with a short m&g for today. Taylor will be willing to drive you when you're ready. Be nice. x
Shit. I hate it when they let me know everything at the last minute. I took my backpack and left the apartment to find Taylor, our driver, in front of the building with the car parked, already waiting for me.
"I'm sorry, am I too late? I just got the text from Scott this morning" I sighed. "No, it's okay. We're an hour early.... Just don't tell the boss." He winked, opening the door for me to get in. You could say Taylor looked after me because he knew how Scott could be, so every time he tried to make me fail, he would put all of his effort to actually make me get there on time or help me with whatever he knew I needed an extra hand with. After a ten minutes' drive, Taylor sneaked me out of the car, helping me to get inside the Radio station without being noticed by the bunch of girls waiting for the band's arrival. There was this small stage they had set up with the guys' instruments already on their places, I smiled at Taylor as a 'thank you' and he nodded giving me my space to go backstage to meet with the boys.
"Hello shorty." Miles half yelled dragging me to his part of the dressing room giving me no chance to react. "Hello, Miles. Is there any specific reason why you just dragged the hell out of me? Do you want me to help you hide a body or something or are you just so damn happy to see me?" I teased him. "I'm just very, very, very happy to see my favorite girl-friend" He tapped my shoulder. "Also, is there any girl-talk, gossiping or something you'd like to share with your favorite guy friend?" He wiggled his eyebrows making me laugh. "Okay so where is this playful and extremely weird Miles coming from? I'm scared, bro." I laughed. "Don't play stupid you naughty girl, yesterday Eddie sneaked out to go see you" He playfully pushed me. "I don't understand what's so amazing about it... we just hanged for a bit, it was no different than hanging out here." I shrugged my shoulders trying to play it cool. "Come on, you did no such thing as just hanging out." WHAT.
"Where did you get that from? We just hanged, I'm serious right now, Eddie and I are just friends." Or at least that's what I'm trying to get everyone to believe for the sake of our jobs, please bear with me Miles. "You two are everything but just friends, don't bullshit me. You must have kissed at least once. For real, Gracie, we're friends, right? You can trust me." He sounded desperate. "Of course we are friends, that's why I think you should know me better and believe me when I tell you nothing but the truth." I sighed. God knows I'm lying for the sake of our jobs, yet again my only excuse. "So now you're going to tell me that boys have cooties and they're gross and that's why you don't date my mate?" He said sarcastically. "Well yes, if that helps me with you getting off my case then yes, I mean honestly, why would you think I like Edgar out of all the guys in the world?"
Miles lowered his gaze avoiding looking at me which caught me off guard, what's going on now? He was the one who started this Eddie talk. "What's wrong now, Miles?" I sighed, desperate. Then I heard someone cleared his throat. Shit. I turned around to see Asher shutting the door, very awkwardly rubbing his neck and then my heart sank... Eddie was standing right next to them with an iced coffee, he walked right up to me leaving the drink on the table next to me, avoiding my gaze. "I got you this." He cleared his throat, his voice was weak, he looked at me with sad eyes and attemped to smile but he frowned instead. "A booster since you probably didn't have breakfast." He knows I barely eat while I work because I get anxiety and want to finish everything on time, he even mentioned yesterday that he thought I wasn't eating enough so he went and got me a coffee for today? Me? The one that should be making it easier for him. "Thank you." I almost whispered because my mouth couldn't function.
