• Sevika pushed open the apartment door, the usual creak barely registering in her ears. The air felt heavier than usual, but she didn’t notice right away.
• “Doll?” she called out, her voice low and gravelly, as usual. Silence greeted her.
• She tossed her jacket onto the chair, her metal arm creaking slightly with the movement. Her brows furrowed when she didn’t hear your usual greeting, the little teasing remark about her being late.
• “You mad at me again, sugar?” Her voice tried to stay light, but the sinking feeling in her chest was impossible to ignore.
• She moved through the apartment, checking the living room, the kitchen. Everything was still. Too still.
• Her heart clenched as she noticed the closed bathroom door, the faint light spilling through the crack beneath it.
• “Sugar?” Her voice trembled slightly as she knocked on the door, but there was no response.
• Her instincts screamed at her as she twisted the knob and pushed the door open.
• She froze. The world stopped.
• You were slumped on the cold bathroom floor, unmoving. A faint trail of dried tears marked your cheeks. A bottle of pills lay tipped over beside you, some scattered across the tiles.
• “No…” The word fell from her lips, barely a whisper.
• She dropped to her knees beside you, her hands trembling as she touched your face, your arms, desperate for some sign of life.
• “Doll… sugar… please,” her voice cracked, thick with panic as she tried to find a pulse, to feel any warmth in your skin. But it was too late.
• You were already gone.
• She sat there, staring at you, her mind unable to process it, unable to accept it.
• “No. No, no, no. This isn’t happening. It’s not real.” Her voice was raw, breaking as she pulled you into her arms, cradling you close.
• The weight of your lifeless body crushed her. Her metal arm wrapped around you tightly, as if holding you close could somehow bring you back.
• “Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you let me help?” Her voice cracked, anger and grief warring in her chest.
• She buried her face in your hair, her shoulders shaking as tears finally spilled, something she never let herself do. But now, she couldn’t stop.
• “I should’ve seen it,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “I should’ve known.”
• The apartment was eerily quiet except for the sound of her ragged breaths, the occasional clatter of her metal fingers as they brushed against the tiles.
• She stayed there for what felt like hours, holding you, rocking slightly as if trying to soothe you one last time.
• At some point, she looked up, her eyes red and hollow. The silence around her felt suffocating, yet she couldn’t bring herself to let go.
• She thought about every moment she’d been too late, too caught up in the chaos of her own life. Every time she’d brushed off the pain in your eyes, telling herself you’d be fine.
• Her grip tightened around you, and her voice broke as she whispered, “I still love you, I promise.”
• But there was no answer. And there never would be again.
• Eventually, she laid you back down gently, her hand lingering on your cheek for a moment longer.
• She stood, her movements slow and mechanical, the weight of grief pressing down on her shoulders.
• The apartment was empty, yet every corner was filled with memories of you. She couldn’t escape it. She didn’t want to.
• Sevika sat on the edge of the bed, staring blankly ahead, the silence unbearable.
• In her mind, all she could see was your smile, hear your laugh. But now, it was all gone.
