It's your birthday

The morning was quieter than usual, the kind of quiet that made you feel like something was off. Sevika was gone, the other side of the bed cold when you reached for her.

You frowned, sitting up, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. She hadn’t mentioned anything about leaving early today. The thought left an uncomfortable feeling in your chest, but you shook it off, forcing yourself out of bed.

You padded barefoot through the apartment, yawning as you stepped into the living room. Then, you stopped.

The table was set—not in a grand, fancy way, but in a way that was unmistakably Sevika. A bottle of your favorite drink, a small but thoughtful spread of food, and—most surprising of all—a single, slightly lopsided cupcake with a candle stuck in it.

“Took you long enough to wake up.” Her voice came from behind you, rough but warm, and when you turned, Sevika was leaning in the doorway, arms crossed, watching you with that unreadable expression she always had when she wasn’t sure how to say something.

“You did this?” You glanced back at the table, your chest tightening. Sevika wasn’t the type for grand gestures, and she definitely wasn’t the type to care about birthdays—not even her own.

She exhaled, rolling her eyes like it wasn’t a big deal, but there was something softer in her gaze as she stepped forward. “Yeah, well… figured you deserved something.”

You couldn’t stop the small, surprised smile that tugged at your lips. “You even got me a cupcake.”

“Tch. Don’t get used to it.” But when you looked up at her, she was already smirking, the corner of her mouth twitching like she was trying not to let how much she actually cared show.

You stepped closer, wrapping your arms around her waist, pressing your forehead against her shoulder. Sevika was warm, solid, and she hesitated only for a second before her arm came around you, her metal fingers tracing slow circles on your back.

“Thank you,” you murmured against her skin.

She scoffed, but her grip on you tightened just a little. “Yeah, yeah. Happy birthday, princess.”

She pulled back just enough to tip your chin up, her thumb brushing against your jaw before she leaned down, pressing a slow, lingering kiss to your lips.

When she finally pulled away, you were breathless, and she had that smug look on her face like she knew exactly what she was doing to you.

“Now eat your damn cupcake before I change my mind about all this.”

You laughed, taking her hand and pulling her toward the table. “Only if you share it with me.”

Sevika groaned, but she sat down, pulling you into her lap instead of the chair. “You’re lucky I love you, doll.”

You smiled, resting against her, feeling the warmth of her arms around you. “I know.”
