• Sevika sits at the small, worn-down table in your shared apartment, staring at the untouched plate of food in front of her. She’s been watching you for weeks now—how you’ve been picking at meals, pushing food around without really eating. Her jaw clenches as the realization sinks in.
• You’re in the other room, curled up on the couch with a blanket, scrolling aimlessly through a book you aren’t really reading. Sevika steps into the room, her heavy boots thudding softly against the wooden floor, and stops just short of the couch.
• “Sugar,” she says quietly, her voice unusually gentle. You glance up, trying to mask the tension in your face, but she’s already crouching in front of you, her mechanical arm resting on her knee.
• “You haven’t eaten,” she says simply. No accusation, no anger, just a statement. Her dark eyes hold yours, searching for answers you don’t want to give.
• “I’m fine,” you mumble, trying to avoid her gaze. Your hands clutch the blanket tighter, but Sevika isn’t so easily brushed off.
• “Don’t do that,” she says, her voice firm but not harsh. “Don’t shut me out.”
• You feel her flesh hand cover yours, her calloused fingers warm and grounding. “Talk to me, doll,” she says softly. “What’s going on?”
• The weight of her presence, the concern in her voice, cracks something in you. Tears prick at your eyes, and you shake your head. “It’s nothing, Sev. I just— I haven’t felt like eating.”
• “Bullshit,” she replies, but there’s no bite in her words. “You’ve been like this for weeks. Don’t think I haven’t noticed.”
• You try to pull your hands away, but her grip tightens just enough to stop you. “Hey,” she says, her tone softening further. “You think I don’t care? That I’m just gonna let you hurt yourself like this?”
• The guilt hits you hard, and your voice cracks as you whisper, “I didn’t mean to— I just— I can’t—”
• “Shh, it’s okay,” she interrupts, pulling you into her arms. You don’t resist, letting her hold you as the tears start to fall. Her metal arm wraps around you, cool against your skin, but her warmth makes you feel safe.
• “You’re my girl,” she murmurs into your hair. “You don’t have to go through this alone. I’ve got you, princess.”
• You sob quietly against her chest, her steady heartbeat grounding you. She doesn’t rush you, just holds you tight, her chin resting on top of your head.
• After a while, when your breathing steadies, she leans back just enough to look at you. Her thumb wipes away a stray tear from your cheek, her expression serious but filled with tenderness.
• “We’ll figure this out,” she says firmly. “I don’t care how long it takes. You’re not doing this on your own.”
• “Sevika, I—” you start, but she cuts you off with a shake of her head.
• “No excuses,” she says, her tone leaving no room for argument. “You’re not gonna scare me off, doll. Not ever.”
• Her words hit you harder than you expect, and for the first time in a long time, you feel a spark of hope. She presses a kiss to your forehead, her lips lingering as if to seal her promise.
• “One step at a time,” she whispers, her hand brushing your hair back. “You’re worth it, sugar. Don’t ever think you’re not.”
• That night, she doesn’t leave your side. She sits with you on the couch, her arms wrapped protectively around you, and for the first time, the weight of your struggle feels a little lighter.
