The bar was loud, thick with the scent of alcohol and smoke, the usual crowd lingering around the gambling tables.
Sevika sat at her usual spot, cards in one hand, cigar in the other, a confident smirk tugging at her lips.
She was winning—of course she was—but that wasn’t what had your jaw tight and fingers clenched around your drink.
Some woman was leaning way too close, laughing at everything Sevika said, hand brushing her metal arm like she had any right to touch her.
Sevika wasn’t exactly pushing her away, either. Just sitting there, looking unbothered, letting it happen.
Your stomach twisted, heat rising to your face.
You tried to ignore it, but then the woman leaned in even closer, whispering something into Sevika’s ear.
Sevika chuckled, low and deep, taking a slow drag from her cigar.
Your grip on your glass tightened.
You didn’t even realize you were moving until you were standing behind Sevika, fingers gripping the back of her chair.
She noticed instantly, glancing up at you with that sharp, knowing smirk.
“Something wrong, doll?” she murmured, voice thick with amusement.
The woman looked you up and down, unimpressed, before turning her attention back to Sevika like you weren’t even there.
That pissed you off.
Without thinking, you grabbed Sevika’s chin, tilting her face toward you before pressing a slow, deliberate kiss to her lips.
She stiffened for half a second before melting into it, her hand curling around your waist.
When you pulled back, your glare flicked toward the woman.
“She’s taken.” Your voice was low, deadly.
Sevika let out a quiet chuckle, shaking her head. “Damn, sugar.”
The woman scoffed, rolling her eyes before walking away.
You huffed, arms crossing over your chest.
Sevika turned her chair, grabbing your wrist and pulling you down onto her lap.
“That was cute,” she murmured, pressing her lips against the side of your neck.
“Shut up,” you grumbled, still annoyed.
She smirked, her fingers tracing slow, lazy circles against your thigh.
“You know you got nothing to worry about, right?”
You glanced at her, frowning slightly.
Her smirk softened. “Only got eyes for you, princess.”
Your cheeks burned, and you hated how easily she could flip your emotions like that.
“Good,” you muttered, leaning into her.
She grinned against your skin, pressing a kiss to your shoulder.
“Damn right it is.”
