• Sevika's jaw tightens as she steps into the dimly lit room. The air feels heavy, suffocating, but she forces herself to move forward. She hates this feeling-helplessness. It isn't something she's familiar with, and yet it's all she's known since the accident.
• Her eyes fall on your still form lying on the bed, machines humming softly around you. The sight of you, so lifeless, twists something deep inside her. You're always so full of life, so vibrant, and now... this.
• She pulls a chair close to your bedside, her movements heavy, as if the weight of the world rests on her shoulders. Sitting down, she takes your hand in hers, her calloused fingers gentle against your skin. It's cold. Too cold for her liking.
• "Hey, sugar," she murmurs, her voice low, almost a whisper. The words feel foreign coming out; she's used to teasing you, making you laugh, but now there's no response, no warmth in return.
• Her thumb brushes over your knuckles in slow, repetitive strokes. She leans forward, resting her forehead against the back of your hand, closing her eyes as she takes a shaky breath. "I don't even know if you can hear me," she mutters. "But... I need you to wake up, doll. I need you to come back to me."
• Memories flood her mind unbidden-your laughter echoing in her ears, the way you'd press soft kisses to her jaw when she was too serious, the warmth of your body against hers when you'd cling to her in your sleep. She clenches her jaw, the ache in her chest unbearable.
• "You promised me," she says, her voice breaking for the first time. "You promised you'd stick around. That I wouldn't lose you. And now..." She trails off, her breath hitching as she fights back the tears threatening to spill.
• The silence in the room is deafening. It eats away at her, a constant reminder of how fragile everything is. She hates it. Hates the stillness, hates the waiting, hates not knowing if you'll ever open your eyes again.
• Her free hand clenches into a fist, resting on her thigh. She feels powerless, and that's not a feeling Sevika knows how to handle. She's used to fighting, to taking control, but here... there's nothing she can do except wait.
• "You know, I was never good at this stuff," she admits, her voice softening. "At talking about... feelings. But you always saw through me, didn't you, princess?" She huffs a bitter laugh, the sound hollow. "You made me soft. And I hated it at first, but now..." She swallows hard. "Now I can't imagine my life without you."
• Her hand tightens around yours slightly, as if willing you to squeeze back, to give her any sign that you're still here with her. But nothing comes. The machines continue their steady hum, the beeping of the monitor the only indication that you're still alive.
• "You're stronger than this," she whispers. "I've seen you fight through worse. So fight, damn it. Fight for me. For us." Her voice cracks, and she bites down hard on her bottom lip to keep from breaking entirely.
• Hours pass. She doesn't leave your side. She can't. The thought of walking out that door, even for a moment, fills her with dread. What if something happens while she's gone? What if you...
• She shakes her head, banishing the thought. No. She refuses to believe this is the end. It can't be.
• Her hand comes up to brush a stray strand of hair from your face, her touch impossibly tender. "I'm not going anywhere, doll," she says firmly. "I'll be right here when you wake up. And you will wake up. You hear me?"
• She leans down, pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. Her lips linger there for a moment, her eyes squeezing shut as she silently wills you to come back to her.
• The room grows darker as the day turns to night, but Sevika doesn't move. She stays by your side, her hand never leaving yours, her heart heavy but still beating
