You replayed that night in your head often. Every time you closed your eyes, every time you tried to fall asleep, the last time you saw Jack replayed in your mind.

You and Jack walked into the restaurant hand in hand. Jack had a bouquet of roses in his other hand. You were led to a table in the back, but before you could sit down, Jack stopped you.

"I, uh, I got you these," Jack said, letting go of your hand, holding the bouquet out to you.

"Thank you," You smiled softly, taking the roses from him, both of you sitting down on opposite sides of the booth. You placed the flowers on the table. Jack had asked for a bottle of your favorite wine to be at the table when you arrived.

There was already a glass poured, so you took a sip.

"So, what's the special occasion?" You asked, placing your glass back onto the table.

"What? There has to be a special occasion for me to take you on a date?" Jack asked teasingly.

"No, we just don't go out like this very often," You said, "But there doesn't have to be a special occasion,"

"I just figured since I won't be in town for our anniversary, I'd plan a little date night now. Which you're still welcome to come with me to Paris, I haven't canceled your ticket, just in case you change your mind."

"Jack, I've told you, I have work."

"Just quit, I've told you I got you, I would love for you to come on tour with me."

"I don't want to have to rely on you, it's not that simple."

"But it could be-"

"I don't want to quit my job, I like my job, I like that it makes me feel normal, sure traveling is fun, but I like having a normal routine, coming home to my own bed every night, I'm glad you love touring, but nothing about it is normal. I do miss you when you tour, but I'm also perfectly content staying here while you go live your dream, I'd never stop you from that."

"I just, I want to wake up next to you, I want to get a dog together and bring them on tour, dates in every city, even if you never tour with me, I still want a future with you," Jack said, looking at you from across the table.

"And we'll figure all of that out when it's time, okay?" You asked and Jack sighed.

"Okay," Jack took a drink.

The rest of the date was uneventful, until Jack pulled a box out of his pocket, your eye's immediately going to the box.

"Jack, I-" You didn't know what to say, you just needed him to put the box back in his pocket and you two could pretend he never brought it out.

"I was going to do this later, but I just, I feel like I should do it now," Jack said, "I had this whole thing planned, but it just feels right," Jack started to open the box, you placed your hand on top of his to stop him from opening the box.

"Jack," You hesitated, "I can't- I'm sorry." You picked up your purse and got up, Jack called after you as you walked away. You hesitated but didn't stop.

As soon as you were in your Uber, you weren't sure if you made the right decision, hell, you knew for a fact that you didn't handle it in the right way, but you knew you couldn't marry Jack, not right now.

It had been almost a year since that night, you hadn't spoken to Jack since. You had done everything you could to avoid him. You were successful, until tonight. You had been invited to a mutual friend's birthday party, which you knew Jack was going to show up to.

You had felt extremely guilty about how you left Jack, and part of you was excited to see him again. The bigger part of you was nervous. You wanted to apologize, but you didn't know if Jack would accept your apology.

You were standing in the corner, a drink in your hand, when you saw Jack across the room. You sighed, every single ounce of confidence that you held was drained when you saw Jack. You didn't think that you could go up to him anymore. You downed your drink, fixed your dress and fluffed your hair.

You had lost sight of Jack, and your drink was empty, so you decided to make your way to the bar. It took about 20 minutes, but every minute you were at the bar was another minute you didn't have to worry about running into Jack.

You turned from the bar, scanning the room for Jack so you could go in the other direction. You didn't see him so you just picked a random direction. You started walking when you heard a friend call your name, you turned to look in their direction.

"Shit," You said as you bumped into someone, feeling your drink spill down your dress. You felt the person you bumped into grab onto your arm so you didn't fall.

"I'm so-" Jack looked down, stopping mid-sentence, "Sorry," Jack whispered, quickly pulling his hand away. "Uh, hi." Jack said, putting his hands in his pockets.

"Hey, um, how have you been?" You asked Jack, one of the bartenders saw what happened and brought you napkins, you thanked them.

"I've been good, um, do you need help?" Jack asked, gesturing to the napkins.

"No, I'm okay," You hesitated. "I uh, I wanted to apologize. For everything really, but especially how I left, you didn't deserve that. I was scared, and I should have explained instead of running. I'm sorry, I made a mistake, I probably really hurt you, and I've regretted it every single day since."

"It's okay, I shouldn't have asked you to marry me when I knew you weren't ready. I shouldn't have even put you in that position."

"I was wondering if maybe we could-" You said before you were cut off by a woman approaching Jack.

"Hey, sorry to interrupt, but Urban's looking for you." She said as Jack placed his arm around her shoulders.

"Okay," He said before turning back to you. "What were you saying?" He asked you and you shook your head.

"It wasn't important. I'm just going to go clean up, I'll uh, see you around I guess."

"Do you need help? I'm Jack's girlfriend by the way, I saw him bump into you and it looks like you two know each other, so I promise I'm not a complete stranger, unless you two don't know each other than this is just awkward." She said, moving away from Jack, ready to go into the bathroom to help you clean the spilled drink off of your dress.

"No, I'm okay, thanks," You said, quickly turning and walking away. Instead of going to the bathroom, you just wanted to go home so you made your way out the front doors, calling an Uber.

Knowing Jack had moved on, was an unexplainable hurt, and you knew that was only an ounce of what he felt the night you left.
