Arzen blinked repeatedly, unsure of what he had just heard. For a moment, he thought there was something wrong with his ears. But the fact that Carsel still stood in front of him, batting his puppy eyes like he'd just asked something as innocent as, "Can I borrow your book?" confirmed that his hearing was perfectly fine.

"Uh... what? You want me to do what?"

"I want you to introduce me to Hanjun Lan. This might seem sudden to you, but, you know..."

Carsel lowered his gaze, suddenly acting like a shy maiden confessing her love.

"It's just... I have something I need to say to him, but I thought it would be awkward if I just walked up to him out of nowhere... so... I need you to help introduce us."

"???"

Arzen was a bit stunned by the request, not to mention the sheer audacity of the person in front of him. Sure, they were classmates, but the way Carsel asked him was way too casual, as if they were best friends doing each other favors.

"Sorry, but can I know what exactly you need from him?"

Arzen wasn't stupid. In this novel, and especially in this high school setting, befriending someone wasn't just about finding a new buddy to hang out with. It was all about connections, power, and money. Building relationships here wasn't something one did casually—there was always a hidden motive behind it, and it wasn't something he could agree to without a second thought.

"Huh?"

Carsel seemed genuinely taken aback by Arzen's directness. Clearly, he wasn't used to people looking him straight in the eye and questioning his motives. For a moment, Carsel seemed to be contemplating how to respond.

"I... I just see him sometimes and thought it would be nice to be friends with him."

'Yeah, right. That demon looks like a great friend to have, huh?'

Arzen was even more convinced now that there was something else behind this request. But honestly, he didn't want to get involved with Carsel either. Facilitating a connection between Carsel and Hanjun would only bring trouble for him.

"Sorry, but, you see, he's really busy right now with new projects at his family's business. I'm not sure if I can schedule anything with him, but I'll let you know if he can make time."

With that, Arzen subtly motioned for Carsel to move out of the way since he needed to get to his seat.

"Oh... um... okay, I got it."

Carsel looked like he hadn't expected such a blunt response from Arzen and quickly retreated to his seat, looking slightly deflated.

'F*CK, what a great way to start the morning.'

Arzen felt a surge of wariness wash over him as he replayed the interaction in his mind. The last thing he wanted was to get any more entangled with the main characters of this side story, but something about the way Carsel had so casually asked for an introduction had rubbed him the wrong way. It icked him so much that he couldn't help but respond with uncharacteristic bluntness.

'F*ck it, it doesn't matter now, I guess. No matter what I do or how I act, these main characters keep trying to talk to me.'

Arzen's jaw tightened as he forced himself to relax. Despite his best efforts to stay invisible, they just kept showing up in his life, like magnets drawn to iron. Carsel, with his suspicious request, and Hanjun, with his constant meddling—and now Raizel, whose motives were just as murky. No matter how much he tried to keep his distance, they kept finding a way to drag him into their orbit.
