The cozy atmosphere of Mini's house was already buzzing as the team piled in, armed with snacks, blankets, and an eclectic mix of DVDs. It was a spontaneous decision—Kyra's idea, naturally. She'd texted everyone to come over for a movie night, not bothering to check if Mini was even home. Fortunately, Mini was always prepared to host her Matildas family.
"I'm making popcorn!" Caitlin announced, heading straight for the kitchen.
"I'll set up the projector," Alanna said, grabbing Kyra's elbow to pull her along as an assistant.
"Who's picking the movie?" Macca asked, rummaging through a pile of DVDs.
Mini, who had been relaxing with a cup of tea, raised a skeptical brow. "You guys really think you can just show up unannounced?"
Kyra grinned, flopping onto the couch. "Oh, come on, Mini, you love us."
Mini sighed but didn't argue. She loved these moments of team bonding, even if they were chaotic. But her thoughts briefly flickered to the upstairs bedroom, where Y/n and Luca were probably fast asleep. After Y/n's rough week, Mini had offered to let Luca sleep over, knowing how much comfort he brought to her. She hadn't expected the entire team to invade her house, though.
As the team settled in, Caitlin called from the kitchen, "Mini, where's Y/n? Haven't seen her since the match."
"She's upstairs resting," Mini said casually, hoping they'd leave it at that.
"Resting? At 8 p.m.? On a movie night? Nah, we're dragging her down here," Kyra declared, springing to her feet.
Mini's eyes widened. "Wait—Kyra—"
But it was too late. Kyra was already bounding up the stairs, with Caitlin and Macca following close behind. Mini considered stopping them but realized it would only make things worse.
Upstairs, Y/n was sprawled across her bed, her head tucked under Luca's chin. The two had fallen asleep watching a show on Y/n's laptop, the soft glow of the screen illuminating their peaceful faces. Luca's arm was draped protectively around her waist, and Y/n's fingers were loosely curled around his hoodie.
The door burst open, and Kyra barged in, yelling, "Y/n! Movie night downstairs—oh."
She froze, her eyes landing on the two figures in bed. Caitlin and Macca skidded to a halt behind her, peering over her shoulder.
"What the—" Macca started, but Caitlin clamped a hand over her mouth to stifle her laugh.
Y/n stirred at the noise, blinking groggily. When she saw the trio standing in the doorway, her face turned crimson. "Kyra! What are you doing?"
"We were coming to drag you downstairs, but, uh... clearly, you've got company," Kyra said, her voice laced with mischief. She crossed her arms, leaning against the doorframe. "Care to explain?"
Luca, who had woken up as well, looked like he was contemplating jumping out the window. "Uh... hi, everyone," he said awkwardly, sitting up and rubbing the back of his neck.
Y/n groaned, burying her face in her hands. "It's not what it looks like!"
"Oh, it's exactly what it looks like," Caitlin teased, winking at Luca. "You two all snuggled up in here, looking cozy..."
Mini appeared behind them, sighing heavily. "I told you to leave her alone."
"But Mini, look!" Kyra gestured dramatically toward the bed. "Your baby has a boyfriend in her bed. Under your roof."
"Kyra, you're not helping," Mini said sharply, though there was a hint of amusement in her tone.
Y/n sat up, still blushing furiously. "Luca just stayed over because... I had a rough week, okay? And Mini said it was fine."
"Wait, Mini knew about this?" Macca asked, turning to look at her.
Mini shrugged. "Of course I did. I'm not letting my girl go through a hard time without support."
The team was silent for a moment, processing the revelation. Then Kyra broke into a grin. "Alright, fair enough. But, uh, next time? Maybe warn us before we walk in on this level of domestic bliss."
Y/n groaned again, flopping back onto the bed. "You're the worst."
"Love you too, kid," Kyra shot back. "Now get downstairs. Luca can come too—if he can survive a Matildas movie night."
Y/n looked at Luca, who gave her a reassuring smile. "What do you think? Ready to face the chaos?"
She sighed, grabbing his hand as they got out of bed. "Might as well. They're not going to let this go anyway."
As they made their way downstairs, the team erupted into exaggerated cheers and wolf whistles, with Kyra taking the lead in teasing both Y/n and Luca. But as the night went on, the playful jabs gave way to warmth and acceptance. By the end of the movie, Luca was just as much a part of the family as Y/n.
And despite the embarrassing start, Y/n wouldn't have traded the night—or her team—for anything.
