"You. Abandoned! Me!"
"Got that the first time but thanks for reiterating forty more times mon gros."
"I could have been killed and you wouldn't have even cared, would you?!"
Tony took in a deep breath, held it for three seconds, then let it out slowly. Most of the time, she was all about banter. She could argue for days. Literal days if she had the right opponent. But right now, she was angry about losing Noble, dealing with the throbbing pain of a couple gunshot wounds, and supremely irritated that Oliver had been dead when she had returned. Alistair had been adamant that one wasn't his fault.
The double tap bullet wounds in head and heart looked more like a professional hit mans' work. And the guard she had kicked was gone. Tony was willing to believe Alistair that Oliver had been done in by his own man, assuming Noble had put one of his own men in a position to either protect the weak link or make sure he couldn't spill secrets.
It still rankled and put her in no mood for much of anything. "Are you injured?!"
The cutting look she sent Alistair halted whatever had been about to roll off his tongue. She sent a quick look up and down, finding a little blood, but none of it appeared to be his. He mutely shook his head, though his frown deepened. Tony gave a jerky nod in return.
"Fantastic. Your concerns and complaints have been duly noted. And that's as much of an apology as you're going to get out of me. I work alone. I don't stop to coordinate with anyone. If you don't like it, there's the door. You can tell Sophia your assistance was appreciated but unneeded."
Tony turned away, collecting up the cell phone she had dug out of Oliver's pocket and the security pass off him and one of the guards. She intended to make the most out of this debacle. Maybe she could find something that would point her in the right direction. Hopefully there was still something salvageable.
She stalked out of the holding cell, did a quick sweep of the observation room just in case and went brushing past Alistair leaning in the doorway when she found nothing. He followed her onto the elevator and Tony swiped Oliver's key card against the panel. The elevator started upwards when she hit the top floor button.
She folded her arms and swayed her weight to her uninjured leg as they ascended. She kept her eyes resolutely off of Alistair when he made no attempts to stop off at the lobby. It didn't faze her either way. Though the discomfort that hadn't been there before wasn't her idea of a good time. The elevator doors opened at the top of the building and she strode off, going straight to Oliver's desk to rifle through papers and hack into his email.
Oliver was organized at least. She found a chain of communication with Noble and skimmed the messages. They dropped a couple names here and there, which Tony made note of as people to be dealt with, even if they weren't Noble himself. When she thought she had everything she was going to get, she planted her hands on the desk and levered herself to her feet. She really needed to get back to the safe house so she could patch herself up. And her jeans were ruined. Again.
"You gonna take care of those bullet wounds now?"
Tony glared at Alistair. "Was thinking about it." She gingerly put weight on her damaged leg, then struck out for the elevator when it didn't buckle. "Not looking forward to getting back across town but I'll make it. Thanks for the concern. Duty accomplished. Have a nice day."
Alistair sighed and followed her onto the elevator again. "Just follow me. My place is around the corner. I'll stop being annoyed if you stop being pissy."
Tony raised a brow, mouth pinched, then sighed and nodded. Alistair's shoulders relaxed, tension falling by a degree once she had agreed, then a little more when she followed him out of the building and down the street without complaint.
