The gentle breeze rustled through the trees, carrying the faint sound of children's laughter. Engfa sat on the edge of the wooden bench, her elbows resting on her knees, watching her children as they played in the sandbox a few feet away as her mind drifted back to the present. The golden afternoon sunlight bathed everything in a warm glow, making the scene feel almost ethereal.
Float, their bright-eyed 3-year-old boy, was busy constructing what he proudly declared was "the tallest sandcastle ever!" His tiny hands patted the mound of sand with determination, his little face scrunched in concentration. Beside him, his one-year-old sister, Cherran, giggled as she tried—and failed—to stack a bucket of sand on top of her brother's creation. Float didn't seem to mind, though. He just laughed along with her, ruffling her soft hair in that sweet, protective way that always tugged at Engfa's heart.
Her mind wandered as she took in the scene. Seven years. Seven years since she and Charlotte had said their vows under the golden light of the lavender farm. Seven years of building this life together, of love that had only deepened with time. She thought of the road they took fifteen years ago that had brought them here, the twists and turns, the heartbreak and joy, and she marveled at how everything had fallen into place.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Charlotte's voice.
"Alright, you two! Time for a snack!" Charlotte called, her voice carrying a warmth that always seemed to wrap around Engfa like a comforting embrace.
Engfa's gaze shifted to her wife, who was walking toward their children with a plate of freshly cut fruit and crackers. The sunlight caught in Charlotte's hair, illuminating the strands and making her look even more radiant than the day Engfa had first fallen in love with her. The smile on Charlotte's face was one of pure joy, her love for their little family shining through every expression, every movement.
Float looked up from his sandcastle, his face lighting up at the sight of his mom. "Mommy, look!" he exclaimed, pointing to the slightly lopsided structure. "It's the tallest sandcastle ever!"
Charlotte crouched down, inspecting his work with exaggerated seriousness. "Oh wow, Float," she said, her tone playful but earnest. "That's an incredible sandcastle. I think you're an architect in the making."
Cherran let out a delighted squeal, toddling over to Charlotte and reaching for the plate of snacks. Charlotte laughed, balancing the plate as she scooped Cherran into her arms and planted a kiss on her chubby cheek.
Engfa watched them with a full heart, unable to stop the smile spreading across her face. This was her world, her everything—her wife, her children, her family. It was a life she had dared to dream of all those years ago but had never fully believed she could have.
Charlotte glanced over her shoulder, catching Engfa's eye. "Are you just going to sit there staring, or are you going to join us?" she teased, her voice laced with affection.
Engfa laughed, standing up and brushing off her jeans. "I like watching," she admitted as she walked toward them. "I could do this all day."
Charlotte raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on her lips. "Watching me or the kids?"
Engfa slipped an arm around Charlotte's waist, pressing a quick kiss to her temple as Cherran and Float dug into the snacks. "All of you," she said softly. "This is my favorite view."
Charlotte leaned into her, her smile softening into something more tender. "You're such a sap," she murmured, but her tone was warm, filled with love.
"And you love it," Engfa shot back, earning a quiet laugh from her wife.
Engfa crouched down to Cherran and Float's level, helping Float wipe some crumbs from his chin while Cherran offered her a sticky piece of fruit. She accepted it with a grin, making an exaggerated "mmm" sound that sent Cherran into a fit of giggles.
As the moments stretched on, Engfa found herself feeling a wave of gratitude so profound it almost brought tears to her eyes. She had spent the last seven years balancing the demands of her career as part of an oncology research team, a role that had allowed her to help change countless lives. But nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to the fulfillment of coming home to this—the sound of her children's laughter, the warmth of Charlotte's love, the feeling of being surrounded by the family they had built together.
She glanced at Charlotte, who was now sitting cross-legged on the grass with Cherran in her lap and Float leaning against her side. Her wife caught her gaze and gave her a knowing smile, the kind that said I love you without needing any words.
Engfa stepped closer, brushing a strand of hair from Charlotte's face. "Thank you," she said quietly.
Charlotte tilted her head, her expression soft but curious. "For what?"
"For this," Engfa replied, gesturing at their children, the snacks, the moment. "For choosing this life with me. For everything."
Charlotte's eyes softened, and she reached up to cup Engfa's cheek. "I didn't just choose this life, Engfa," she said. "I chose you. And I'll keep choosing you. Every day."
Engfa leaned down, pressing her forehead against Charlotte's as her heart swelled with love. She looked at their children, at the life they had created, and thought once more how impossibly lucky she was. Her family was her universe, and she would spend the rest of her life cherishing every moment with them.

I just want to congratulate you guys for making it to this chapter. I'm happy that you guys still kept going after chapter 32. I still get comments about this book and am happy that it get more recognised now. I heared this story has been shared in X and I can see that new people are coming here to read, I hope I didn't disappoint.
At first I was reluctant to write. This is my first time writing, just for fun. But when I saw the engagement from a lot of you, I tried my best to write better and longer chapters. So, thank you for not judging my writing from the start.
Most of you guessed where I based the story from, and you guys are right. I based it from the movie A Walk to Remember (which is one of my faves), but of course with my own twist. I hope you guys enjoyed the ride.
Lastly, I am happy to say that I won't stop writing. If I do in the future, it's maybe because I don't get engagements anymore or maybe I had to deal with something important in life. See you guys on my other books!
