COLOMBIA
"It's hard to turn your head off when you get too deep into something like this," she explained, taking a sip of her coffee. "I feel like it's just... there's no way of stopping the curiosity until I get to the bottom of this. I hope you can understand."Switzerland looked at her and there was no pity or empathy in his eyes — and yet, there was no hatred either. Some swirl of monotonous void was all that she could see.
"I get it," he said, voice dull. Ecuador applied another swipe of nail polish. He placed two fingers on a folder and slid it over into their direction, not making eye contact. "This is for you."
Colombia gazed at him regretfully and ignored the parchment-colored folder. "Did— something happen? You're not trying to defy our terms or anything? Or have you given up? Sorry, I just find it odd that you're so easily complying... not that it's a bad thing— I should really stop talking."
"No, nothing of the sort." he shook his head. "I just met someone. And seemingly this is a much more bigger situation than I thought it is."
"Who?" Colombia asked, surprised. "Where?"
"Romania," he said with a downcast frown. "In UN's office. And — she told me she's leaving today to search for someone, concerning this situation as well, it seems. Someone still in Neo. She took a few documents and I took a glimpse before she left. It had Vietnam's name all over them. Oh— and apparently the Axis Powers are involved too."
"I surmised." Ecuador pursed her lips. "Vietnam though? Romania?" She exchanged glances with the other girl, a relationship that had become one more of a tentative partners-in-crime.
Vietnam, relatively quiet, badminton and chess-loving Vietnam, who had gotten sick and had to be checked up on the hospital for nearly a year — and Romania, rather rebellious, hair streaked red, but a Representative with a good heart and a great mind, part of the same quest for the missing parts of a dimension? Unexpected, to say the least.
"It just messes with me," Switzerland said, shutting his eyes for a moment and flashing them open again before he lost himself in the quiet too much. "I just feel like I'm in this state of nothing, if it makes sense? It's a fever dream. Everything was so perfect before and I was so neutral and it was all alright. And now people are sneaking out of Neo, rebelling, blackmailing me into finding information for them, and every day we uncover something different. I feel like this is just... too much change for me to handle. Is this a thrill for you, Colombia? Do you, like Romania, love the exhilaration you get from shredding apart what has always been?"
"No, I don't. Of course not. What do you take me for? I'm not — none of us are, ah, maybe Ecuador could disagree ("What?" "Nothing.")— but none of us are inherently evil. There is just so much corruption in our world and you're one of the ones who fall victim to the shock of discovering just how much of that we are truly not aware of. It may look like we are purposefully disturbing the peacefulness of before but peace is not so much peace if it is tainted with deceit. Don't you agree?"
Switzerland gaped. "Fabricated?"
"There is clearly something we don't know much about going on behind the scenes. I went to Allied Way the other day with Brazil and Argentina, and we found a letter left for France and Britain by Canada. He warned them never to tell UN about their disappearance or this letter — so I can confirm that there is something bad hidden from us. We are now essentially living in a place where nothing ever goes wrong only because everything that does go wrong is being hidden from us, like we're just being manipulated. And that's not okay."
"In a moral sense it's not okay but realistically would you want to risk your life to uncover all the horrible nitty-gritty details of Neo that we could've avoided if we stayed out of UN's damn business? Of course it's not okay but we're everything we've known at stake just to get it right morally. And we don't need to be doing any of that if we had just—"
