Remember the Day
Remember the date of that dreadful day?
September 1, 1939, Germany of course got their way.
Germany invaded Poland killing many.
They didn't care and felt not an inch of pity.
Hitler, the disgusting man holding all power.
Killing millions of innocent and helpless Jews every hour.
The Luftwaffe flew high above the valley of Britain.
A victory for Germany, but I wouldn't be so certain.
For Britain threw them off with an attack of their own.
With change of plans, Hitler started tittering on his throne.
The Holocaust was nothing but a bloodletting nightmare.
Leaving many broken hearts and bodies in disrepair.
Anti-Semitism was prominent and Jews were left for dead.
Years later the massacre finally came to an end.
Japan sneaked in bombing Pearl Harbor on September 11, 1941
What a bold move Japan has done.
Battle of Okinawa was known for its island hopping.
Fought on land, air and sea there was just no stopping.
Victory Gardens were planted to provide for its own.
Sent to troops to show they weren't alone
Rations were sent to limit the amount you pay.
Though the food and gas seemed to last a single day.
Women finally got their share in the war.
Helping with medicine, instead of standing outside the kitchen door.
FDR was the beloved president of 15 years.
The one who told us what we should fear.
Finally the war ended in 1945 with an atomic bomb.
Alas we can say WWII is done, but look at what we've become.
Remember the date of that dreadful day
