Planning a road trip sounded like the perfect way to end the year on a high note. I'd been juggling the idea for weeks now, trying to figure out how to make it work. Three days of adventure, laughter, and probably some chaos too. Who am I kidding? Definitely chaos.

It was ambitious, but if you're not ambitious at the end of the year, when are you ever?

The first step? Getting a group together. I grabbed my phone and started a group chat. "Road Trip Squad," I typed, giving it a good name until someone ifykyk changes it to something more ridiculous. Totally not blaming anyone in advance.

I already knew who I wanted to invite: me, obviously, Mel, Sebby, Hugo, and Annie. That made five of us. But here's the catch—we needed eight people to make it even. Four tents meant four pairs.

I sat back, staring at the list, trying to think of three more names. It was harder than I thought, specially when you're aiming for a cozy and good vibe with no unnecessary drama.

Just as I started to ponder on, my phone buzzed. Mel and Sebby were calling.

"Hey," I said as I picked up.

Mel's voice came through first, practically bouncing with excitement. "Oh my god, Alex, this is such a good idea! A road trip before the new year? Genius."

"Thanks," I said, smirking like the compliment was an award. "I know, I'm a visionary. But I need more people to join. Got any ideas?"

Sebby's voice cut in, casual but sharp as always. "Actually, we were thinking about something else. We should totally use this trip as a chance to get Annie and Matthew closer."

I frowned, kinda thrown off. "Wait. They're a thing?"

Mel groaned dramatically, the kind of groan that felt like an eye-roll you could hear. "Oh, you idiot. Of course not. But they could be! Don't tell me you haven't noticed how they act around each other."

"I mean... they're friends, right?"

Sebby wasn't letting me off the hook. "Friends who blush whenever they talk to each other. Friends who can't go a day without talking. Friends who look at each other like they're the only ones in the room. Friends who—"

"Alright, alright, I get it," I interrupted, holding up a hand they couldn't see. "How come no one told me about this?"

Mel laughed, that teasing kind of laugh that made you feel like the clueless "Because you're Alex. You're oblivious about this kind of stuff."
