It's my birthday! Finally! Not that I'm trying to act all cool about it—let's be real, I'm beyond excited. I'm not one for over-the-top parties, though. I just want my people, my important people, to be there.

Mom burst into my room, practically glowing with excitement. "Morning, honeyyy! It's a bright day, isn't it?" she said, yanking the curtains open dramatically.

"Mom, I'm trying to sleep in," I groaned, burying myself under my blanket. "The sun doesn't need your help. It's already doing its thing."

"Oh, stop being a grump," she teased, pulling the blanket off me. "Get up, birthday girl!"

Before I could protest, Dad walked in, holding a neatly wrapped gift box. "Happy birthday, princess!" he declared, swooping in for a bear hug.

"Thanks, Dad!" I said, squished in his arms.

He shot Mom a triumphant look. "First one to wish her. I win again this year!"

Mom rolled her eyes. "You only won because I let you. It's called being gracious."

Dad smirked. "Sure, whatever you need to tell yourself."

Their annual "Who-wishes-Annie-first" competition is hilarious, but Missy always manages to outshine them both. And right on cue—

"WAIT! Don't open that yet!" Missy yelled as she barged in. She practically tackled me onto the bed. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"

"Missy! Chill!" I laughed, trying to sit up.

She shoved a gift bag into my hands. "This is from me. Open it first!"

"Not so fast," Dad interrupted, holding his box closer. "Mine first."

"No way!" Missy argued. "Mine is better!" She did this cute pout that had me thinking about how lucky I was. I laughed, torn between the two. "Okay, okay! I'll open both!"

I started with Dad's gift, tearing the paper apart like a kid on Christmas. Inside was... an iPad.

"No. Freaking. Way!" I gasped, holding it up like it was pure gold... IT WAS. "Are you serious?"

"You've been dropping hints about it for months," Dad said, grinning. "Figured it was time."

"Do you like it?" Mom asked, looking almost nervous?

"Like it? I love it! Thank you so much!" I launched myself at them, hugging them tightly.

"Okay, now mine!" Missy shoved her bag at me, practically bouncing on the bed.
