We finally arrived after what felt like forever. The journey was a blast, though. Singing at the top of our lungs to every song on Alex's playlist made the long drive worth it.
It was incredible, like one of those perfect road trips you see in movies—complete with out-of-tune harmonies and dramatic hand gestures.
As soon as we reached the campsite, the real work began. We had to set up our tents, which, of course, meant chaos. Alex handed us two tents to set up, and Annie and I took charge.
Scott, ever the charmer, raised an eyebrow. "How are you girls going to put up a tent?"
Annie immediately shot back, "What's that supposed to mean?" Her glare could have melted steel... I am not even exaggerating.
Matthew, who was nearby, smirked, looking quietly pleased. It was like he was rooting for Annie to win this little verbal match.
Scott flustered, rubbing the back of his neck. "I mean... why do you need to? We guys are here at your service." He gave an exaggerated bow, clearly trying to recover from his earlier slip-up.
Annie rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress a laugh. "Nice save, but we've got this."
I couldn't help but laugh too, even though I was mostly trying to focus on setting up the tent. Hugo, always the dependable one, came over to help.
"Hey, Seb. Here you go," he said, handing me one side of the tent.
"Thanks," I managed to reply, my voice a little quieter than usual. He looked amazing in that black shirt and cargo jeans—like, distractingly amazing.
As our hands brushed when he passed me the tent pole, a jolt of electricity shot through me. Butterflies erupted in my stomach, and I had to mentally berate myself. What was wrong with me? I used to be so unaffected by guys, and now this one had me completely undone.
"Sebby?" Hugo's voice snapped me out of my trance. He was waving a hand in front of my face. Omg that was embarrassing.
"Oh, sorry, I zoned out," I said quickly, feeling my cheeks heat up.
From behind us, Annie and Mel—always ready to poke fun—started giggling. "Into her la-la land, with her Mr. Right" they teased in unison.
I shot them a glare while Hugo chuckled, clearly amused by the whole situation. Meanwhile, the other guys had already finished setting up three tents, and here we were, still struggling with one.
