Y/n held her phone tightly in her hands, looking at the same text for what felt like the hundredth time, her gaze glued to the message that had been bothering her. She couldn't take a single breath of relief ever since she had received that text from that unknown number. She tried to call on the same number several times, but it was unreachable

Frustration bubbled inside her as she ran her fingers through her hair. Her thoughts were in a chaotic mess. She swallowed dryly, recalling the other night. She didn't talk to him about those things. Does he even remember that he blurted out all that. About Jackson.. about running, escaping. It was definitely something deeply related to him.

She really doubted he would've told her anything if he was in his right senses. May be he didn't even remember that he had told her everything or else he wouldn't be so relaxed and unbothered around her.

Closing her eyes, Y/n rubbed her forehead with her two fingers to ease the tension building there. She couldn't ask him direction. He might be uncomfortable recalling his past. The memories must be horrible for him if what he told her that night was true. She didn't want to reopen his wounds. He was happy these days. She doesn't want to spoil his mood. But what about this text.

Should she go and meet the person?

No! It's a big no. What if it was some trap and the person was intending to hurt her. Or worse, it could be a lie to create a misunderstanding like someone did it last time by sending those pictures to Taehyung? No, she can't trust anyone and go somewhere without thinking practically. She knows better.

Then?

Her gaze dropped to her phone again. She licked her lips nervously and sighed before dialing a number. She got up from the bed, pressed the phone to her ear, and waited. The line rang twice before a familiar voice answered.

"Hello?"

"Uh- hello mom," Y/n greeted hesitantly, a nervous smile tugging at her lips.

"Y/n? Oh, my dear! How are you?" Hyejin's warm voice instantly soothed her nerves. She could hear faint shuffling on the other end like she was working.

"I'm fine. How are you?" she asked, fiddling with the heart pendant around her neck.

"I'm good, sweetheart. It's so nice to hear your voice after such a long time. How's life going? How's Tae? How's everything going? He doesn't give you a hard time in handling him, does he? This boy is really the most stubborn one among all," She chuckled, making Y/n smile, feeling the motherly warmth in her voice.

The small talk stretched on for a few moments, easing some of Y/n's tension, but her whole mind was clouded heavily with her real purpose for calling. Finally, she took in a steadying breath and took the plunge.

"Mom," she began carefully, her voice soft, "can I ask you something?"

"Of course, dear. Go ahead," Hyejin replied casually.

"It's about Taehyung. And...his father." Y/n hesitated, her fingers tightening around the locket as she felt the other line going completely stiff, but she continued.

"Why are you and Taehyung's father divorced? I mean... if so, then why only Taehyung's costody was given to his father? And... do you know someone named Jackson? Who is he? To you? To Taehyung?"

There was a pause on the other end, and Y/n could almost hear the tension creeping into Hyejin's voice when she responded.

"Why are you asking about them? Did Taehyung tell you something?" her voice was slower and mindful this time.
